Guest guest
Sw we started the Dennis Browne Boots yesterday and na's doctor that we were seeing told me she has to wear them @ nite and the AFO's during the day.......na is fine with the AFO's ........but the Boots and Bars are a whole nother story. I put them on her for her nap..she woke up ten mins later so I put her back to sleep and she woke up 5 mins later and wouldnt go back to sleep....she hates the bar. This same thing happened for her second nap and then nite time too..........Is this normal?????? Guest guest
Once her feet are properly corrected, you won't have any problems!!!!! You may need the shoes for na but they can be ordered when she is actually ready to be in the shoes. I am sure will pipe in here but Dr. Alvarez put her son Hayden in the brace well well well before his feet were fully corrected with distasterous results. I am just so frustrated that Dr. Pirani is away right now! I am wondering if I should call him on his cell and ask him if you should just let her feet relapse a bit until he gets back because the LAST thing you want to do is have her in the shoes before her feet are fully corrected. Maybe you could see our orthotist who is very experienced with the Markell's and the Ponseti method and she could set your shoes to the degree of outward rotation that na has been casted to, yes I think that this a better idea since Dr. Pirani won't be able to do anything from so far away. , all I can see is frustration and possible blisters and or sores by keeping you daughter in these shoes when her feet are most likely NOT ready for them, PLEASE give me a call at home and let's get you and Brinna in to see to fit the shoes the best they can until Dr. Pirani gets back. Guest guest
Awww poor little thing, hope your doc finds that she's ok!!!!!!! I totally hear ya , you have been through a LOT to get to where you are at! If the shoes are set at a 45 degree angle then thats what she was probably corrected to and hopefully she will be ok in them. I would keep her in the shoes as much as possible as opposed to the AFO's, if she is tolerating them during the day with no prob's, great! Try to get in as many hours as you can. I wouldn't advise keeping her in the AFO's on for long periods esp. if she has some skin irritation due to improper casting...have you talked to about the difference she has seen between Dr. Alvarez' and Dr. Pirani's casts? Just Please know that it will get better, Dr. Pirani will be able to get na on track in no time!!! So glad that you found this group =) & Grace > > > > > > > > > > I was just wonderin if anyone has any links as to what the > > > >different > > > > > types of shoes look like----- and Markell etc > > > > > I looked but couldn't find anything myself. Guest guest
I didn't know that you had posted pics...she is just tooo cute =) Looks like she has lots of socks lol, all our babies do me thinks. At least they are always matching right? had the same prob with the set up of her brace at Children's (with dr. alvarez), the shoes are waaay to close together! No wonder she was uncomfortable + I am pretty sure that her feet wern't ready for them anyway but MAN someone has to teach them to set up a brace properly! At least Dr. Pirani has cc'd her on everything he has done for Hayden and will do the same for na I'm sure - not that it will probably change anything - but at least it's there on record for her to see. She is really so cute ! Love that pink hat too! & Grace > > Thanks for the compliments > > Yeah, at the orthotists office after na's surgery, we fitted her for > the Dennis Browne boots however she was very sensitive and screamed so we > decided not to go with them and finish the AFO's instead.
