Highlights

We are honored to have Elena Avila, RN, MSN and E. -Bautista, Ph.D. as our

plenary keynote speakers for this year's Forum.

Born in the barrios of El Paso, Texas,

Ms. Avila is an author, Curandera, and a Registered Nurse specializing in

mental health. She specializes in combining traditional and Western medicine.

Her book Woman who Glows in the Dark is

a national bestseller, and her work has been reviewed in the New York Times and other national

publications. Ms. Avila received rave reviews for her presentation at the 2004

WMSF and we're excited to have her speak at the Friday plenary.

Dr. -Bautista is

currently Professor of Medicine and Director of the Center for the Study of

Latino Health and Culture at the School of Medicine

at UCLA. He is the author of several books including La Nueva California and Healing

Latinos: Fantasia y Realidad. Noted politician and businessman Henry

Cisneros has said that Dr. -Bautista is the " best qualified scholar

to explain the pattern of Latino growth in California

and its importance for California

as a whole. " He is a passionate, forceful and thought-provoking speaker

and we are proud to have him as our Saturday keynote presenter.
