Guest guest
will be done with the 3 months of 23/7 in a month. At that time he will be nearly 10 months old and his doctor says he will probably be able to go down to 12-14 hours/day. There was an email the other day addressing this and I have a couple of questions. I understand the theory that too much freedom all at once may make it difficult to get the shoes on at night and to sleep through the night but does some of that just depend on your child and their temperment? The schedule to follow in reducing hours that was posted is for a baby who starts the Ponseti method at birth. What about a baby who starts later and is bearing weight a lot by the time they are finished with the first three months in the FAB? I would be interested in hearing anyone's experience with an older baby in reducing the hours. Thanks, and (6-19-05 FAB 23/)
Guest guest
I am far from being the most informed about this, but I think a lot of the hr decision even with Dr. Ponsetti is the flexibility of the foot, not just age/mobility(though that is a consideration). I have seen posts in the past 6 mnths here where Ponsetti himself recommended going to 20/7 at first and reducing hrs more rapidly than with the typical from birth patient. Most newborns starting it, will have 5 - 10 months or more before pulling up and walking/weight bearing, so b/w that and the rapid growth in the first yr...huge chance of regression. Isaac is almost 8 months. Keep in mind, his dr. is not Ponsetti certified. He had tenotomy, 1 wk plaster, 3 wks fiberglass cast. Straight into 18-20 hr(we have been doing 20-21 hr). The plan is barring us having any slipping issues or regression bc his foot is extremely flexible and loose, going to 16-18 hr after the first 6 wks (we are in week 4). After another 6 weeks, going to 12-14 hr(he will be 10 mnths then). Of course, we can up the hrs if desired as we are now. But Isaac is already pulling up, and can stand holding fingertips now also. So I hope he will be an early walker or cruiser atleast. I know this is controversial and ultimately you have to make the informed decision that u feel is best.
