Guest guest
Hi and Sara, I am jealous of both of you and the nasogastric tubes that were promised to you!!!! I was not wired shut or even banded at the time I got out of surgery (3 weeks ago), but I spent the rest of the night vomiting blood. In those hours, I would have given anything for that NG tube! I even asked the nurse at one point if there wasn't something they could stick down my throat to suck everything back out. She looked at me like I was crazy, but then, she wasn't the desperate one puking blood all night either!! Just thought I'd give you ladies a different perspective!! Not everyone even vomits at all or only once or twice and most have said it wasn't bad- even those who were wired. I was probably an exception. Just the same, I wish I had had one of those tubes!!! I've never had one before, so I can't say what they were like, but it sounds better than my experience! Good luck to you both!! Katja PS, Sara, I have resorbable rigid fixation. I dont know what to tell you about the wiring. I guess it depends on the case. I know my surgeon prefers the rigid fixation (I'm in upstate NY btw) and only uses wiring in cases where it is specifically medically indicated such as when they don't achieve an ideal break in the bone or something like that. At my pre-op they said I would be wired if they had a bad break, otherwise I wouldn't be. As it turns out, I " cracked up " just fine and didn't need to be wired. Good luck! Guest guest
--- Hi Sara, Thanks for the response. I'm not up to date with all the medical terminology either. My first surgery was what I believed to be a LeForte Ostomy. Basically, a pallatal expansion. I'm not sure the name of the surgery that I'm having at the end of April. I just thought it was called orthognathic surgery, but I think that must be a broad term. My surgeon is going to break my upper jaw and remove bone. And do a genio also. He really didn't give me an option about being wired shut. He said it would probably be for only 2 weeks unless there are complications. I trust him. My last surgery with him went smoothly and he did a wonderful job. I know I shouldn't be worried about the nasogastric tube, but for some reason, at about 3 a.m. it seems sooooo horrible! I guess I should keep a positive outlook. It's nice to know there is someone out there I can talk to. Have a good evening! Guest guest
, Hi, I had a Lefort 1 done over a month ago upper and lower and my OS wired me shut. Now, when he did this I had never even heard of this group so I didn't know of any other options. But, I just want to say day 35 of being wired...please don't let thisscare you....this has been the WORST thing in my life. All35 days I could eat nothing but thin liquids. I lost 26 pounds. Everything I say is practically non understandable (due to splint wired in) I have no energy, am sick and tired of Boosts....ok I better stop there. I know that my dr doesn't wire everyone so he MUST have had to do this to me and is not just torturing me but that is what it has felt like to me TORTURE. Now on the flip side at 26 with a husband and a one year old I am a big baby so maybe others have gotten through 5 1/2 weeks of being wired just fine but I feel like it is making me crazy! Maybe you'll be wired for less. I could have taken 2-3 weeks much better but the last two weeks have really taken a toll on my body and mind.
