Guest guest
Tigger: My surgeon was very clear that if I lost 50% of my excess weight, that I would be considered a success. As a matter of fact, I felt during my consultation that he was trying to talk me out of the surgery by telling me everything that it entailed before, during and afterwards. I've lost about 85% of my excess weight, so I guess I am one of his " successes " . I once mentioned to him how when I first met him that though I liked him, felt comfortable with him and knew he was the one I was going to let do the surgery, I couldn't believe how low keyed he was. He told me that he doesn't want to talk anyone into the surgery and wants to make sure that each and every one of his patient's has a clear understanding of what is about to happen to them. I'll be 4 years post-op in October and feel that those of us who are that far out may have benefitted a bit more in regards to the doctors care and attitude, because bariatric surgery was basically in the infancy stages and once it gained popularity, there are a lot of doctors out there who are doing it because its a money maker. I have been hearing such horror stories lately, not just from this list, but people that know someone, who knows someone, etc. about botched jobs, etc. When I had it done, there were only three doctors on Long Island that did it and one only did and still only does the VBG. Now there are so many I've lost count. JMHO Regina
