Guest guest
5 peds told us the same thing, including the one who ended up writing the script. Another ped out of network said that unfortunately she sees too many babies who's head don't round out and was certain that Maysa's head could benefit from a band. She also wrote us a script. I ended up using the one from our ped so insurance would cover the bands... His is 14mm off. The Dr. said with repositioning (which we have been doing) and doing tummy time more and the sleep surve mattress, his head will round out. Did your ped. tell you the same thing? He said he'll check his head again at his 6 month appointment.
Guest guest
Mine said the same thing; right before he turned 6 months, I felt it hadn't corrected so I asked for a referral to the plastic surgeon who put E. in a helmet last week. The plastic surgeon's take on it was that our somewhat aggressive repositioning stopped the process and as he had grown, may even have made it look better--but that if he was still out of line by 6 months, it wasn't going to be fixed by repositioning. So even though he's mild, we put him in a helmet. I would definitely suggest you get very aggressive about it--lots of tummy time, repositioning even in the night, if you want to wait and see a bit. But if you don't see any improvement in the next 4-6 weeks, I wouldn't wait any longer. Or even get a second opinion now. Both my PT and Ped were all "wait and see" about it, and I dont' think either agrees with our decision to helmet, but you can definitely "wait and see" too long about this head stuff--so decide when your cutoff is. Guest guest
Hi My son was diagnosed at 4 mths with left sided plagio measured originally by a plastic surgeon at 15mm. Even before he measured he said my son's head would not correct and once a measurement was taken, he wrote us a prescription to be banded. When my son was scanned, it showed 12mm of difference. I repo'd from the time we were fitted for the band, and the two weeks it took to receive the band and within two weeks of wearing the band, my son went down to 5.7 mm. I have been told that anything over 10 is severe. However I KNOW a woman who I used to work with who's son had brachy and a fairly severe case and they repo'd and his head rounded out. It is a decsion every parent has to make. BUT, if it were me who had to make the decision, I would band 100 times over. Just in case since there is no way to turn back. It's a hard decision, but well worth it if and it goes so quickly once/if you do. - From: <eskyborn@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Wednesday, May 27, 2009 11:15:21 AMSubject: Went to my Dr. today Brayden had his 4 month appointment today and his Ped. thinks his head will correct on its own.
