Guest guest
I just happened to look into the mail today and saw that several of you are having eye problems. My sarc was diagnosed by a severe case of iritis in both eyes. Iritis is inflammation of the iris (the colored part of your eye.) The iris contracts and expands according to the light-- and it is the part that helps to control the intra-ocular pressure of the eye. If this is inflammed, then the chance of an acute glaucoma attack is very high. This is serious, and you can lose your vision if it's not gotten under control quickly. sometimes eye drops help-- sometimes they have to do laser surgery and basically make a small incision in the iris to relieve the pressure. IF YOU HAVE PAIN IN YOUR EYES, OR YOUR EYES ARE LIGHT SENSITIVE AND YOU THINK YOU HAVE THE FLU--- GET INTO THE OPHTHALMOLOGIST RIGHT AWAY!!! I DO MEAN RIGHT AWAY! THESE ARE SIGNS OF IRITIS AND GLAUCOMA-- DO NOT WAIT-- CALL AND GET IN THAT DAY! I have adhesions where the iris has adhered to the pupil of my left eye-- and so I am very light sensitive as the iris cannot do it's job in that eye-- and it is the one thing I have to watch constantly. There a a large number of articles I've done in the ARCHIVES about sarcoidosis and your eyes-- please research them-- this is not one of the "wait and see" issues. Your regular MD will miss this-- they don't realize that sarc effects the eyes in this manner. Even neuro's forget to check this -- the ocular pressure that is. The information I've shared on this subject saved one of our members vision-- (and she was an RN, MD, and MFT) so her medical background should have signaled what was going on-- and she had missed it in herself. She still has her vision in one eye-- thanks to the fact she followed this advice. Guys, I'm still not doing well-- but this is one subject that is in my background (I worked for an ophthalmologist for many years and was certified as an ophthalmic assistant) so please, if you have eye pain call your docs. It is on their list of EMERGENT reasons for an appointment.
