Lori,

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately, doesn't eat applesauce and

doesn't seem to care for chocolate that much. He's currently boycotting

peanut butter, but I think he'll get over that soon. I have had luck

" hiding " his liquid supplements in carrot juice, which I count as his

beta-carotine since he's poo-poo the cod liver oil. I can't wait until he's

older and understands an ultimatum!

I didn't wait until mine was older to understand the ultimatums; he

still doesn't, but he takes his supplements. What I did was a little

harsh, but couldn't hide them into anything, and could not squirt

anything with a siringe bulb anymore either: it was supplements

everywhere but in his mouth!

So one day I layed him down on the floor, " sat " on him, and got some

capsules out and said " now this are the supplements: you either take

them or I'll put them down myself " . It took me about one week, of

putting capsules into his mouth, and then squirting some water down

with a siringe, fast enough for him not to spit it out (and he is

quick!!!), and holding his mouth shut for him to swallow.

But then, one day, I layed him down on the floor, and he opened his

mouth and then he waited for the water: he was not squirming, he was

not complaining: he was just taking them!!!

At times I still have to fight with him, but I no longer " sit " on him

or have to force him any more than saying: " take them! " . And he is ok

with it.

Now, there is to say, my son does not understand (I believe so) what

it is said to him, mostly is just the tone of voice we use, that gets

him where we want him to go.

Also, I was rewarding him at first, with little sugar candy after his

supplements were down and swallowed; whether he was fighting or not,

he would have gotten the reward, so he was understanding that the

candy was for after the " pill go down " part. I would put them right

beside his face on the floor where he could see them, showed him the

supplements, gave him the supplements, and then put the candy in his

mouth as soon as the supplements were down.

I know this does not sound very " nice " ; but after what I had to

clean, afterward for him to take one little bit of 'medicine', this

was really the only way out, and I was at the end of my rope. :) :)

Hope this helps. Good luck. (My son is 4.8 yr old.)

Cristina,

I'm so glad someone else sits on their child to get them to do

things. I sit on mine to brush her teeth, apply eczema cream, wash

her hair(that's a site you don't need to see-yikes!). She is

beginning to understand when I say " Either let me do---or I will hold

you down. " She almost always complies now, except for the hair

washing. She's just not there yet on that one. She's 2 1/2.

Does he like shakes? I make Alyssa a shake in the morning and she sucks

that sucker down! I just take 2-3 frozen strawberries, her vitamins and her

milk sub. Throw in a blender and your done. She loves it. I even put her

flax oil in it and it's not to " greasy " . I just bought some other kinds of

frozen fruit to try b/c she loves all fruit. I also sometimes use juice

instead of the milk sub.

Maybe something to try.

Hi Lori,

You gave me a good laugh reading your e.mail about your daughter coming around

the corner and discovering that you were putting vitamins in her candy, and then

refusing to eat them. Sorry, I'm sure it wasn't funny to you at the time.

Especially when you were going to so much trouble to make those candies just to

get her to take her vitamins. My daughter is very stubborn like thas also, so I

know exactly how you feel. I am glad you found another method of getting the

vitamins in her.
