Guest guest
We aren't sure why she got the sore. The cast wasn't wet or anything. We had the shoes on for several hours yesterday. (Until the family Christmas, there are over 100 people and we just didn't want to deal with the questions.) We put her back in them after it and she had them on until 4:00 this morning. They really seemed to be bothering her so we took them off then. We soaked her foot this morning and she's back in them again and we'll keep them on as long as possible. We go back in two weeks and it may be necessary to recast for a week. We shall see. We'll keep her in them as much as possible. At this point, it's just hard to tell when they hurt her or just make her mad. But her foot looks tons better so I think within a day or two we will have them on the full 23 hours. Thanks for the tip. I will help her she we are playing. We've worked out the nursing for the most part so that's good. We are also getting much better at getting her shoes on her feet. We do know how important the shoes are. If it wasn't for the sore, we would be keeping them on the full time. Our doc. said to do the best we could, but not to aggravate her foot any more. But like I mentioned, it looks so much better now. Thanks! Joline > > It will help your girl learn to tolerate the shoes if you help her learn how to move her feet in unison, rather than her natural tendency to kick them seperately. Do this by holding the bar in the center while she's laying down and moving it up and down, bending her legs together in a playful fashion. Most babies catch on pretty quick, I mean in a few days anyway and that aliviates a lot of their aggrivation while also helping to prevent sores by the friction created moving them seperately at this time. > > How did she end up with a sore in her cast? Those first few days in the FAB are pretty critical (in my opinion, anyway) - this is when the baby is used to having their legs bound up anyway in a cast, but once they get a taste of freedom out of both casts and FAB it just gets harder to convince them to go back to bondage. I don't mean make her suffer with a sore hurting her, but do be aware that she will also quickly learn that throwing a fit will get that contraption off her feet whether they are honestly hurting or not, kwim? > > If this continues you might want to consider having her put in a healing-cast to hold her correction until she is able to wear the shoes 23 hours like she should. > > Or, after the sore heals it may become necessary to recast her once or twice to regain correction lost now when she can't wear the FAB before starting over with the FAB. Maybe not, but it something to keep in mind if she can't wear either a cast or the FAB right now. > > Merry Christmas and I hope it gets better for you both! > > s. > How long to adjust to the shoes? > > > My daughter Kiera, got her shoes on Thursday. Guest guest
She had a series of 5 casts. Our doc. is Ponseti approved so the last cast was the holding cast. We didn't need to cut her achilles tendon as it has enough flexibility. The last cast was turned out and up the 15%. So what she needs for the shoes. I'll see if we can put up some pictures. She's staying in the shoes okay and her foot looks good enough that we should be able to keep them on almost the whole time. I'll see what we can get up. Thanks!
