Guest guest
We got our 3year old (PDD-NOS, apraxic, ect.) son a dog and he loves it! It is like his best friend, he plays with it for hours. Our 6 year old ( autistic ) son pretends he doesn't like the dog, but when he thinks no one is looking he will interact with it:) We got a one year old dog from the pound. It is an American-Eskimo otherwise know as a spitz, small about 23lbs. We have had some problems with it but I think that is because the people who raised it did not have kids. All in all it is a good dog, very furry so that provides a lot of sensory:) It is also extremly protective of the kids towards anyone who doesn't live here. We bought our older son a golden retriver for his first birthday but it adopted the next-door neighbors because would just sit there and look at it- he had no interest in playing with any animals untill recently. But it was an extemly gentle dog and not as yappy as our dog now. Another good thing is that the dog cut 's stimming by about 75%. He playes with the dog and pretends he is a dog instead of fixating on two small toys for hours on end. Good Luck! Debbie B. Mom to (6 autistic), (3 pdd, apraxia, capd, ect.), and Ashleigh 14mo.
