Guest guest
Aloha all:) I was reading this last post and It hits home for my son also. He is 3 1/2 and wears his shoes (Markell w/red adjustable U shaped DBB bar) when he sleeps. We just had our last ck up and Dr. also cked flex/ angle/ rotation, and how far he could point down and up with toes, and said all is well and on track. But I too have a thing about his feet...they are turned inward and he falls when he runs. The Dr. said this will correct in time, but it bothers me, I don't know if I should raise a fuss, or give it time to correct itself. Because we have been through the Ponseti method from birth, with one relapse under our belt even though we had one time out on the shoes when he was hospitalized with a bad flu that cost us 2 nights without his shoes. I have a realtime clip of him walking if anyone wants to see it please feel free to e-mail me and I will let you see the clip...anyhow I fear the loss of time, if it does not correct...does that make sense? I was thinking about sending the clip to Dr. Ponseti, like we did with his last problem...would love some input on weather I should or not... Guest guest
Carole, It never hurts to get a second opinion, especially from the master himself. Take pictures from all angles and dorsiflexed up and down, bearing weight in standing position from the back. If you have video of him having trouble running, I would try to get that to Ponseti as well. I haven't heard of anyone complain about the feet turning in, when fully corrected, at a later age. Usually it is the opposite problem. I am certainly no doctor. If I were you, I would put all second guessing aside, put your mind at ease, and get a second opinion. After all, he could say his feet look great and then you won't have to worry anymore. Good luck. HTH!! cfhawaii50@... wrote: Aloha all:) I was reading this last post and It hits home for my son also. Guest guest
Carole, do you mean the front part of the foot is turned in, or is it turning on its side, so he's walking on the outside border of the foot? Did the turning in just recently develop? for more info, you might want to take a look at page 17 in the Global Health booklet http://www.global-help.org/publications/cf-english.pdf I urge you to follow your mom's instinct.. if you feel it's not right to just 'wait and see' don't be reluctant to push for more information or being more proactive. if he's tripping and falling i'd be concerned too. Relapse happens mostly due to noncompliance with the bracing, but it can also happen in those who have used the brace faithfully. here's a link to a messageboard post including text about Dr. Ponseti's 2001 article regarding relapses: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nosurgery4clubfoot/message/13223 hope you get things figured out. Good luck and take care, and Claire 6/29/
