Guest guest
I have also received mixed messages about this problem from my ped physical therapist and orthesis. I think perhaps over time if we fix his plagio and his torticollis his face may get more symmetrical as he grows. > > > > Our doctor told us that as his forehead shifts back, the eye socket and cheekbone should follow. His ears--yes, but there was something about the inner ears and complexity . . . didn't really understand that but will be asking about it when we go. > > >
Guest guest
It depends on the case and what exactly is going on in terms of asymmetry. The helmet will fix most if not all of the asymmetry issues in the vast majority of cases. As the skull rounds out the ears, eyes, and cheek bones will too though they will generally do so after the flat spot gets mostly corrected. Our daughter was severely asymmetrical at birth and the helmet has helped SO much. Her jaw is misaligned and due to restrictions in the womb the right side of her face is smaller than her left. The only thing that will even that out is time and PT. They won't address it further than what the helmet can correct until after she turns four. From there they'll re-asses if needed. Worst case, she could need extensive surgery on her jaw, but if that is the case, they'll probably wait until she's got her full set of adult teeth in anyway.
