Guest guest
Hi, Alba, I have heard of Dr. Godfried. He is on Dr. Ponseti's list and used to practice out of Lubbock, TX, before he moved to New York. Have you discussed 's nighttime issues with him at all? The length of the bar does make a difference, especially in the comfort level for the baby. If it is too narrow, it is uncomfortable and also the baby can often pull their foot out as well, so maybe this is what you're experiencing, especially if recently went through a growth spurt. Here's what I would recommend. You should see if Dr. Godfried can get you a prescription for the adjustable length bar made by Fillauer. The information on this bar is in the files section under the bracing folder here on this group's website. It is also on that ponseti_links site that I mentioned to you earlier. The tips and tricks document is also available in those locations, have you read that yet? As a starting point, if you hold up the brace to 's shoulders, where are the center bolts on the shoes (where they attach to the bar)? Are they at a distance equal to his shoulder width or more narrow? I would recommend that once you are sure that the brace is set up properly, then have start wearing it more hours during the day. Go back to 18 hours per day and then gradually reduce it over time. We've had lots of families that have had compliance issues when they dropped from longer periods of wear to just night time without a weaning period. Hopefully this will help. Do you have a sleep sack to put in at night? This might help him to rest more comfortably also since it keeps the feet contained in the suit. Hopefully others will have more suggestions for you also! Guest guest
Alba, Bar length does matter! I speak from experience. started to get more cranky, and didn't sleep as well. His shoes were measure from bolt to bolt, shoulder to shoulder. We switched so his shoulders lined up with the backs of the shoes, and he was much happier. Most babies are ok when measure from bolt to bolt, but no shorter. Imagine sleeping like that. I think it would be uncomfortable. Another problem could be going from 23 hours to nights only. There have been several parents on here, and I am sure you will hear from some, who did this and experienced the same night time problems. They went to 23 hours, then 18, 16, and nights only over a period of a couple weeks, and most if not all said that took care of the problem. It was almost like it was to much freedom all at once, then you put them in the shoes when they thought they were gone. This could be something to at least try. HTH, and I hope you hear from someone with direct experience with this problem. You are not the only one! 11/19/04 Alba Caceres wrote: We are from New York and Dr. H. Godfried is Orthopedic he is at the Schneider Children's Hospital. He is really good I mean, is looking great, he is a happy baby, plays with his sister but at nigth time oh my god I don't know what to do any more. Whe he was 3 weeks old (he was born on may 5 2005)we started with the cast. It was 1 months and 3 weeks, the first month they change the cast every week. After the cast came the shoes, he wore those for 22-23 hours a day no problem by that time. That was from july 20 to september 15, at that time the doctor said that he can wear the shoes just at nigth. He has the golden bar, at the shoe store they said that the length of the bar has nothing to do. But I don't know. These are his second par of shoes so they are not small, last nigth when he took the shoe of I chek his foot and it was a little red, but if a used the hole number 7 he takes the shoe of, if I used the number 8 he complains. He was fine before he stated to complain like 1 week ago. We saw the doctor january 18 he was fine. After that he started. If I change the bar it would be better for him?, because the space between the legs it's seems to be a problem I used one of these pillows for the neck but the one that is soft and I put in betwen his legs but only works some nigths. If you have any idea and can help me i would really appreciate.
