Guest guest
Here are two different posts taken from the www.GFCFdiet.com message board, I hope they help! Cara We have the advantage of living in Florida and live only about 1 1/2 hours from the parks. So we take advantage of going quite a bit. If you are staying on Disney grounds you can rent a small refrigerator in your room for $6.00 a night. I generally bring some cereal, rice milk, lunches and snacky type things. I also bring a small 6-pack cooler and refreezable ice packs. I then freeze the packs in the " freezer " section in the frig and take the cooler into the parks during the days stocked with GFCF foods. There are no utensils in the rooms, so remember a knife or spoon, small bowl or whatever you may need. I also bring little sandwich bags I can separate food into for the day. Mornings we generally have cereal, but we have on occasion stayed at a Disney hotel where you can order room service. If you give the hotel 24 hour notice they can have a GFCF room service breakfast for you. We have also gone to the character breakfast and again with 24 hour notice they will have a GFCF meal for you. All of the parks have a baby care center and in these centers are kitchens, changing tables, nursing rooms, and a small room with tables/chairs and (of course) a Disney movie playing. These are great little retreats if the park is getting overwhelming or they just need some down time. It is also great to heat up a lunch in their microwave. A hostess is there to help you. I generally bring hot dogs to heat up in the microwave, but be careful the microwaves are really powerful! Again, Disney just tends to be extremely wonderful and helpful. A few of the parks have Mcs, but do not count on it being open. I have gone into the parks and at times the Mcs counter has been closed. If they are open, this is a bonus since a large order of french fries can be quite tasty! But each of the parks does have fresh fruit you can buy, popcorn that is airpopped with just oil, and 100% strawberry fruit popsicles. None of the walk up counters can really accommodate the GFCF diet too much, but they are happy to help as much as possible. Any of the sit-down restaurants can help you at the parks with 24 hours notice. We generally do not sit-down much because it's time consuming and can get expensive. With so many things to do at the parks, you don't want to waste too much time eating! One restaurant Liberty Tavern was particularly helpful at Magic Kingdom. Chef Dennis went above and beyond making a wonderful meal and even had GFCF " ice cream " with a GFCF chocolate sauce he made special for my daughter. There are soft drinks & bottled water all over that you can purchase to drink. If you are flying, you can check a large cooler filled with GFCF foods and just duct tape it closed. Call your airline to check their specifications. I hope this helps, if you have any questions, please ask! ******************************************* Food Shopping Information Publix grocery store in Florida does carry some GFCF items such as Pacific Rice Milk (it is usually less expensive here than at a health food store. Publix plain microwavable popcorn is GFCF at this time, Neuman's all natural popcorn microwavable NO BUTTER is GFCF and can be found at Publix. And of course, most meat products including lunch meat listed on the gfcfdiet.com website is found at a regular grocery store. Hellman's mayonnaise (of course keep refrigerated - pack in ice filled coolers to prevent spoilage. The motels all have plenty of ice for you to use free. Buy some zip lock plastic bags to put the ice into after you come to the states. They also sell fresh vegetables and fruits, canned vegetables and fruit, small boxed juices, etc. Health Food Stores in the Disney World area: Chamberlins Natural Food Mkt 7600 Dr Blvd # 88 Orlando, FL 32819-7238 phone Chamberlins Natural Food Mkt 4960 E Colonial Dr Orlando, FL 32803-4376 phone Health Food City 1225 E Colonial Dr. Orlando, FL phone Tips to help assist you while at the Disney Resorts: For $6.00 extra a night you can rent a small refrigerator to have in your room at any of the resorts. Some of the resorts, like the Polynesian, Contemporary, Grand Floridian also has room service and if you call in advance they will be able to provide you with a GFCF breakfast or dinner. Another suggestion for breakfast and snacks is shopping locally for dry foods that can be kept in your room. (GFCF cereal, muffins, etc) The Polynesian does have a sit down restaurant (again if called in advance they will be able to help you.) All of the Character Breakfasts are buffet, but again they can make you something special (eggs, waffles, etc. if notified.) There are park maps online at www.Disney.com if you need help organizing your days and restaurants! a few extra tips... Tips- park wise...Use a stroller to carry bags (with food, jackets, cameras, etc.) Even if it means buying a second umbrella stroller. You can also rent strollers at the park, but there really isn't a separate place to carry the cooler. If you have a child who doesn't do lines well, you can get a special pass. Get a special pass at Special Services at the front of every park that allows you to bypass the lines. It is helpful to have a note from your doctor saying your child has a disability, but not always necessary. If waiting in lines is a concern, you may wish to have a note with you just in case. We have progressed to a point that we do lines okay, even for an hour. Another alternative If you are doing the regular lines, check out the map to see which rides are offering " fast passes " . Go directly to that ride and get your fast pass, which will tell you when you can return to the " fast pass " line. It allows you to walk right past all the other people waiting for hours to ride popular rides and frees you to stand in other lines until your appointed time. You can only have a " fast pass " for one attraction at a time, and later in the day, they will all be given out and no longer available. Go there first, if this are attractions that you want to do that day.
