Guest guest
> Hi, > > My son is 20 and has UC. He started the SCD just under 7 weeks ago. He is in college (90 min from home) and has been coming home weekends to replenish his food supply. I am trying my best to be his cook. He supplements at school by cooking meats for himself. I make him soup, yogurt, the cheesecake, squash, mayonnaise, applesauce, etc. My hope is that as he begins to feel better that he can take over some of the cooking but for now I am glad to help. was dx at 15 with UC and has steadily worked his way up the chain of meds. Currently he is on humira, MTX, asacol, entocort, folic acid, iron, freeda vitamins, and fish oil. When he started on the SCD he also increased to once weekly humira so truly we don't know whether any changes we are seeing are due to the SCD, humira, or a combination of both. > > 's been feeling better. Urgency had decreased, number of bathroom visits have decreased, and his energy level is good. He just had stool samples tested however, and all showed blood in his stool. We know his colon was a mess prior to starting the diet (colonoscopy in December showed ulcerations as well as tons of inflammatory polyps). Does the blood at this point sound " normal " given the amount of time on the diet? First thing to know is there is no normal. Some people get rid of the blood handily. For others it lingers as the last difficult symptom. And everything in between. > > I am also worried that we are moving too fast? We just added almond butter last week (made from blanched almonds) and he LOVES the almond butter brownies made from the recipe on the pecanbread site. Should we hold off?? If he can handle them digestively, they are okay - but go slowly and ration them at first. Though of course the humira may be masking his true reaction to them - that's a bit of a problem.
