Guest guest
Hi , Welcome and sorry to hear that you are having a rough time. I really have to agree with here, it sounds as though your son's foot has not been fully corrected. If his foot isn't fully corrected, it will be painful for him to wear the shoes as well. When the foot has been fully corrected, it should be able to go outward to 70 degrees and have good dorsiflection (this is the ability to bend the top of the foot upwards toward the shin). If your son's foot can't even stay flat on the ground - MAJOR major red flag. Really glad that you found this group as we can help you to find qualified doctor in your area for a second opinion. With proper casting, his foot can be fixed in just a few casts! Many many parents here started out with doctors that were not able to correct their kids feet and just like you sought out answers and changed doctors these parents (yourself included) are GREAT parents! Please do not beat yourself up because your current doctor for whatever reason hasn't corrected your son's foot properly. This is easy to fix with the right doctor. Where are you located? Guest guest
Can you host/send some pics of your sons foot? It saounds like he may not be fully corrected if you cant flex his foot up well. Also, I would send some pics to Dr. ponseti and get his advice for piece of mind also! I have learned that just because the Dr. says its corrected, doesnt mean it is! We had this problem with my daughter until we went to see Dr. Ponseti and he corrected it properly Christee Mother of... *Josh, Central Auditory Processing Disorder/Sensory sensitivity/learning & Speech disorders (9yrs old) **Aspen, Bilateral minor Metatarsus Adductus (5 1/2 yrs old) ***Dylan, (4 yrs old) & ****Lilee ~ Unilateral A-Typical (complex) Club Foot w/Cavus/Plantaris (R foot) & Mild/Moderate Metatarsus Adductus (L foot). *Ponseti/ Brace 22/24 until 2/14/06, then to 18/24. --------------------------------- What are the most popular cars? Guest guest
, Sounds to me like something is really amiss here. It would be very helpful if we could see a photo of your child's feet - but in the mean time you're saying you can't bend the feet up to be in a " normal " position as they would be if she were standing up on her own. If I'm understanding that right, if she can't bend them up to stand on them in a normal position, then definately there is a bigger issue here than the FAB. We call that ability to tip the foot upwards " dorsiflexion " . Has your dr. told you how much dosiflexion she has? With out adequate flex no shoe will ever help her or be worn minus pain. With a little more info we can possibly help you narrow down the causes to the problem and fix it. How old is your daughter? Who is casting her? Did she have a tenotomy? Can you tell us how they did that? How many casts has she had so far? At what age did she start treatment? Were the casts changed weekly? Are the toes on the casts kicked out to 70 degrees? Were the toes on her current shoes adjusted to kick out at 70 degrees? Was the bar on the FAB set at shoulder width? Lots of questions, I'm sorry. The thing is, don't even think surgery yet, OK? There is so much more that can be done to avoid it!!! Don't let anyone bully you in to that option yet. As far as the " new " Ponseti FAB, it is wonderful (we use it too) but even that won't work if the feet are not ready for the FAB phase of correction. You can't force a square peg in to a round hole. She may need recasted prior to using the new FAB; she may need a 2nd opinion some where if the current doc isn't achieving the proper amount of correction. We love to help but need more info to really point you towards valid solutions to your particular problem. shawnee SHOES WONT STAY ON!! hi.. i just found this site.. i need advice ASAP!! My son was born with clubfoot of the right foot. He went thru the Ponseti casting, and then issued the Denis Browne Bar and shoes. We could not get that boy to keep those shoes on for more than a few hours no matter how or what we tried. For over a month, we tried so many different things. His foot started turning back in, so the orthopedist started the casting again. After 2 additional weeks, the casting was relieved and a foam mold was taken of his feet for a special pair of new sandals Dr Ponseti just came out with. They get fitted next Friday.. My only concern is, the reason we couldnt (and unfortunately still cant) get his shoes to stay on him, is that his foot wont go flat enough against the bottom of the shoes. His heel stays close to the top of the shoe, making it very easy for him to pull his foot out. I cant bend his foot up enough to make it completely flat. I dont know if i should request the casting be restarted (yet again...) or perhaps opt for surgery. (which i want to stay away from.. i've heard too many horror stories about kids and adults getting this procedure only to have pain for numerous years.) I feel like I am at fault for not being dillegent enough, though i have tried anad tried.. everytime the shoes do get put on him, he cries so much he passes out, only to wake up an hour later, in pain and i assume with cramps in his feet, and starts screaming again.. a mother can only handle so much..i feel like a bad parent for intentionally causing her baby so much undeserved pain.. If anyone has any advice, please please give it up! im dyin here! Rowe
