Guest guest
I dunno if there is any connection whatsoever either but my right hip is the one that has me seeing the rheumatologist on a regular basis and the hip is where the dexa revealed osteopenia,,,,,,,,soooooooooo On the other hand, I have been wracking my brain to try and remember if the hip was this bothersome before I had WLS or not and honestly I cannot remember ever seeking treatment for it. Just seems it gradually got worse over time,,,,,I have no clue if there is any connection or not. I would think about getting copies of and tracking every lab and every test I had were I you. It has proven to be a veritable treasure house of info for me and I do on the Excel spreadsheet for dummies version too. Everytime I have an appointment with a doc, I print off the latest labs,,,,,,over the last three years,,,,,showing them,,,,and trends, my health history which is becoming voluminous on a Word document and a print off of all current prescription meds and a sheet showing every other OTC thing I put into my body,,,,,,,I give them copies,,,some are interested some are not but I am tired of trying to memorize all that stuff to add to health histories everytime I see someone. I also figure it might make it easier in case someone else has to do it for me somewhere down the road. Interesting about the hip comment tho and I think I remember others talking about it. I find the dental thread fascinating as well as I am switching dentists tomorrow cause the one I got will not talk to me about anything or a " plan " or discuss anything on a long term basis. I cracked another tooth last week and my mouth has been a disaster since surgery. I have no idea whatsoever if it has to do with surgery or calcium,,,,,,someone in the field commented on the calcium having to do with the bone the teeth grow in,,,,,I thought that was informative,,,,,,just seems like there are lots of things that get mentioned here in this community that are of more than passing note along these lines. Of course since our ceep did our survery on age, LOL, I am not convinced that I am into geezerdom on my own anymore and some of this could have to do with conditions not related to WLS whatsoever! This next decade should be a decade of note in research on us and the new developments for morbid obesity and I am keen to see what is revealed. Dan Slone Surgery 5/2/2000 Calcium Causing Hip Pain?? Hello. I am a regular lurker, but rarely post. I appreciate all the info I glean every day from this group. Anyway, I had open RNY January of 2001 and am down about 140 lbs from a starting weight of 375. I have been diligent about my iron supplements and vitamins, but not too much with the calcium until reading here and seeing others suggestions/problems regarding calcium intake. After I started taking as much calcium as I should be I noticed that I was having arthritis symptoms in my hips. Started to pain me like a tooth ache, especially driving and riding in the car and keeping me up at night tossing and turning because of the pain. If I go off of the calcium a few days, pain is GONE. Start back the calcium, back it comes the next day!!!! Anyone else experience problems with calcium supps? My Dexi was good 2 years out, but I don't know the numbers. Asked the nutritionist in my doctor's office, and she says there is NO connection; keep taking the calcium. Haven't mentio! n it to doctors yet; thought I would ask here and see if anyone else has problems like this. I am convinced there is a connection; have tried it on and off numerous times with the same results. TIA
