Guest guest
Hi Boris My surgery date just got set yesterday to June 6th. I have been wearing braces since Nov 30th 2004. My orthodontist said in terms of pre-op orthodontics I was good to go for surgery as of March 16th which is also when my surgical wires were put on. In the mean time my oral surgeon went icommomunicado making me very uncomfortable so I went to see a second surgeon for a second opinion. I decided last week to go with the second surgeon since I liked his approach and bed-side manner more. Since my decision to take do the surgery with my new doctor I have had daily phone calls with his surgery co-ordinator trying to get a slot for me in one of two hospitals to do the surgery. Ideally I would have liked to have done the surgery after my graduation mid-May but unfortunately all the slots in the hospital were booked. I was lucky enough to get Juen 6th. So my advice to you would be to at least put in a call to your surgeon and make sure your surgery is scheduled soon or that least they are holding a time slot for you in the time frame that you are thinking of getting operated. I was really lucky because my surgeon decided to make an exception for me by operating me on a monday (which he usually doesn't operate on) as otherwise I would have had to wait until end of July to get a hospital slot. This said, I am in NY where maybe there is more demand for this sort of thing...I don't know, just a thought. In terms of seeing your surgeon - have you NEVER seen him, as in you've never even met him? If this is the case I would strongly recommend meeting with him at least once. I'm sure he's a good doctor but it's always good to gauge how your doctor relates to you and your particular problem. I've insisted on seeing both of my doctors multipple times because I wanted to be 100% aware of what the operation was going to entail and also I wanted to have an idea of just whose hands I'm putting my wee jaw in. If you're concerned about the lack of communication from your surgeon don't be afraid to let him know that. You're the patient and therefore have a right to voice your concerns and fears. Good luck with it all and keep us posted on when your surgery date gets fixed. Guest guest
When I got a forecasted month of surgery, I started working with my ortho in order to make sure he could get me ready for that date (we stepped up my appointments). The last thing I wanted was to either be waiting for surgery (my surgeon had a 6-9 month waiting list) or not be ready and have surgery cancelled. I saw the surgeon once about 2 years before my surgery for the initial consultation, and then 1 week before my surgery for the final workup (xrays, molds, measurements, photos, pep talk). He says that many orthos send people before they are ready for surgery, but trusted mine as my ortho had worked with him for many years. I'd keep close contact with both offices once you know you're close to being ready and even coordinate a bit yourself. I pre-booked (with ortho's permission) all my appointments leading up to the last pre-op appointment. The office receptionist didn't like it, but tough! Hope that helps, > > > Hi all, can i ask all those that have had the op or have a date for > their operation if they are/were having any treatment, ie brace > tightening when they got their date? or are you completely done and > then waiting for an operation date?
