Guest guest
Hi everyone, My Oral Surgeon called me today, (gasp), he called, not his nurse, to talk with me about my surgery. I currently have ceramic braces on the top and plastic on the bottom, and he wants me to go into my ortho next week to switch to metal brackets. He said he has had some experience with ceramic brackets breaking off during surgery, and that if he loses more than 1 or 2 brackets, they have to pull off all the brackets during the surgery and put in some kind of arch brace that they normally use when someone has broken their jaw due to an accident. He also said that there would be an initial adjustment period with the metal brackets, and we probably would not be ready for the surgery until August, or possibly the end of July. I have been crying from disappointment because we were looking at the beginning of June as my surgery date. Anyone else have this happen? Let me know. I could use a good cheering up right about now. One good thing I learned from this experience, I can tell my OS truly cares about his patients. After all, how many doctors, let alone surgeons take time to call their patients with news like this? They usually let the nurse or receptionist do it. I'm sure I'll be in good hands. But I'm still disappointed. Connie
