Guest guest
Ok, my new Family Practice Doc said something to me today that blew my socks OFF! He said, Doctors are NOT good listeners, even though we tell everyone we are and we want to be. I just put him up a peg on my opinion board. The more I get to know him and the more he gets to know me...the better things are. I was complaining that the Plastic Surgeon I was sent to didn't want to listen to me. That is when he popped me with that comment. Then wrote me a kick ass referral for a second opinion on reconstructive surgery! He agreed with me that in MY case it was a medical necessity, not just vanity. AND he was impressed that I had kept off the weight for 4 years. He said he gets so many patients in who want this surgery, but haven't tried losing the weight any other way. He said he gets told...well, I think about losing weight, I dream about it, but they don't exercise or try adjusting their food. I told him that this surgery wasn't a sure FIX...that it was something that was a continual battle and that people need to know this. LOL But like Docs..they don't listen. He is just concerned that people are looking for a fast fix. And like most Docs that I get in the Navy he knows nothing about Bariatric surgery. So, I am teaching him. He still balks at my vit B-12 shots...wants to know why I want to do it that way. Told him I had done sublingual and while my B-12 was in the " low normal " range...that wasn't good enough for me..that I wasn't feeling well at that range. I told him I wanted to try to get it up close to the high normal range. That it seems to help. So, he shut up and got me some supplies for my shots...like syringes, needles and a container to put it all in. It was a good day!!!!
