Guest guest
Hi mcs, I first went to my primary care physician in San Francisco and told her about the surgery and Kaiser Oakland. She had never had a patient ask about this so she gave me a referral to Head and Neck Surgery in San Francisco. At that appointment, the doctor walked into the exam room, took one look at me, and said, " Oh yeah, you need the surgery. " He then referred me to Kaiser Oakland's maxillofacial department and at that appointment I was approved immediately. I get the sense at Kaiser that if you need the surgery, it's covered. I had a very minor case -- my lower was moved back 3mm -- and it was completely covered. I have heard of people getting a consult with maxillofacial directly from their primary care doctor, so you may be able to eliminate the extra Head & Neck appointment. The whole process of hoop-jumping took me about 4 months, with 2 months just waiting to get the consult at Kaiser Oakland. They are very busy! Good luck. > > Hi Maddie, > > I have another question for you -- how did you get your kaiser > referral to Dr.O'? Did you just go to your primary care > physician and ask her for the referral?
