My husband and I are trying to get my 10.5 month old banded. I am already

regretful that we didn't do it earlier, and I don't want to have further

regrets. He had torticollis and has plagio - 7mm off and brachy - CI = 90%.

Sometimes his head looks okay to me and other times it doesn't.

But anyways, both of our parents think that helmeting is unnecessary and that my

son's head doesn't look that bad. Why does it seem like everyone (besides

parents) is against helmeting? I start to feel like I'm being ridiculous and

putting too much emphasis on looks. Of course, I plan on teaching my child that

looks mean nothing if not accompanied with a spirit of empathy, generosity, and

appreciation, but I remember what it's like to be young and awkward. Besides,

parents put braces on their kids' teeth all the time, and no one blinks an eye.

So why should I feel shallow for wanting to try and get my child's head as

straight as I can? I don't know, it's just weird to me. /endrant

My Dad thought I was terrible for banding my daughter. He thought It would cause her brain damage or something LOL. She was high moderate to severe plagio/brachy. After she graduated he finally admitted how great her headshape was. She wore her band from age 9 to 12 months. now she is 7 1/2 years old. She does great in school and sports. I think maybe some family is against it because of the unknown and unfamiliarity. You are not being shallow in anway. We all want the best for our kids. Good luck.

Thank you,

Angie

My husband was very much against it at first, so were the peds we saw... My MIL was supportive and so was the rest of my family although they had never seen Maysa because they live overseas. My battle was with my husband the most at the very beginning and while we were going through the passive band from ECA that made things worse. After we got Maysa into two DOC bands and things actually started changing, he stopped arguing with me. When she finally graduated, 11 months later, he actually thanked me for going for it and for doing all I did to help correct her misshapen head.

All this to say that there is nothing wrong in wanting what's best for your child and if that means a rounder head, then be it. You know what's best for your child.
