Guest guest
Hi All! I have been reading your posts and gathering some very helpful info! My twins babies have just been diagnosed with Brachy and Plagio as well as Torticollis. We are waiting to get our appt for the PT referral and have our other appt. on Friday to talk about the helmet. Am wondering if there are any specific questions I should ask, as this is all new to my husband and me. A few other questions: 1)What is the difference between the helmet and the band? 2) Does the helmet/band help with the torticollis as well as the PT? 3) Seems like it can be quite uncomfortable for the babies?? 4)Am still hearing conflicting info. on potential difficulties later on if the helmet is not used. Our specialist says it is purely for cosmetic purposes " however I have read that there could issues with jaw and teeth alignment as well as uneven wear with glasses. Many thanks in advance! Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to the group. Here is my version of the answers to your questions :-) 1) a helmet usually covers the entire head. A band is open at the top and opens on one side so it can be put on/off. Docband, Starband and Hanger cranial band are the most common types. the terms helmet/band are often used interchangeably. 2) no, only with the heat shape. You'll need PT for the tort. 3)if it fits well it is really not uncomfortable. They take about a week to adjust their body temp, but many babies hardly notice it is there. Sometime they don't like you taking it on/off, so once you are wearing it 23 hours a day it becomes easier. 4) I don't think there is a definitive answer. Most parents feel better knowing they are helping with potential problems, rather than just hoping they don't occur. Who are you seeing on friday - a specialist or a band provider? There may be several options for banding in your area that you can investigate. -christine sydney 2.5yrs starband grad > > Hi All! > I have been reading your posts and gathering some very helpful info! > My twins babies have just been diagnosed with Brachy and Plagio as > well as Torticollis. Guest guest
Hi ! Thanks so much for the info. I have been reading the file section on this site and that has been very helpful as well. It is such a new experience that I am not even sure what questions to ask! We have already been to a cranial pedi specialist and now we are going tomorrow to the band provider so at least I feel like I have some questions to start with. Will keep you posted! Thanks again > > > > Hi All! > > I have been reading your posts and gathering some very helpful info! > > My twins babies have just been diagnosed with Brachy and Plagio as > > well as Torticollis.
