Glad you've had such a great experience there! How is the 3rd band going after a

couple more days?

thankless jobs. I know the feeling, I am a school teacher. However, there are

more days than not that you understand why you have chosen the profession that

you have. I would like to extend my gratitude to the entire staff at Cranial

Technologies in NJ. It's because of their kindness and caring ways that make

their job so important to families like mine. Briefly let me share my story.

Approximately a month ago, I took my son up to CT in NJ. Our first visit

revealed that my son was on the severe side of plagio. and brachio.. Our

clinician, Purvey, spent a great deal of time explaining everything. I was

confident that I made the right choice with this company. A week later, my

son's helemt came in. I thought it seemed too big, but what did I know. We

live about 60 miles away, and traffic was bumper to bumper that night. By the

time we got home, it was bedtime. You could probably imagine the terror I felt

when I woke in the middle of the night to screaming. I walked into my son's

room to find the helmet covering his eyes. I immediately fixed it and he went

back to bed. It happened again and by the third time I just took the helmet

off. The next morning, I called the office and spoke with my favorite guy,

Darren. He has such a great sense of humor and still manages to be incredibly

professional. I explained the situation and he immediately conveyed my message

to Purvey. She in turn called me back and listened to what I was saying. Not

once did she pasify me or make me feel that I was doing something wrong. She

then spoke with corporate and they decided to rescan and make a new helmet.

They made this decision without even seeing the helmet. They listened to me and

believed my observation. That was a big plus in my book. The next day I went

back up to Paramus and my son was rescanned. Purvey did a scan comparison and

found my son to be tilting forward in the first one. The next week I took my

son back for his helmet and I thought we had a perfect fit. Boy was I wrong.

The helmet was moving way too much. Purvey, again spoke with corporate, and

decided to remake the helmet. Yes, I was frustrated. But more than anything, I

was concerned that this helmet may not be good for him. I wasn't questioning

the product or the results...just the fit with my child. Purvey assured me that

she would do whatever it took to get it right. And that brings me to today.

Today, my son received his 3rd helmet. It certainly seems like a better fit,

but I haven't faced the middle of the night yet....... I can't say at this

point whether the helmet is a perfect fit, but I can say that the treatment that

we have received at CT in NJ has been nothing short of outstanding. The time

and energy that this entire office has put into my son has been incredible. The

compassion and involvement that Purvey has kindly given to me has been well

worth my long trips there and back. I don't know the outcome yet, but I do know

that there are a lot of caring people out there that are in the right

profession. With that said, THANK YOU CT in NJ.

Gosh youre very understanding Meryl. Nice, good sense of humour  or not, I I think Id lose faith in the skill of the company we used if they didnt get a second band correct. Really hope the third one is correctly fitting and does a good job. Best Wishes.

Well, I would love to say that the story ended there, but........

To sum it up in a few short words.....if we don't change companies, we will be going to band number 4. The third bamd hasn't been working out too good. My pediatrician and the physical therapist are not happy with the fit. The more they pochka with it, the worse the fit gets. Truthfully, I don't know what to do. As of today, and he has only had the third one for a few days and has been in and out of it without consistent wearing, he is not wearing it. My pediatrician is going to speak with CT on Monday. So, that is the story. Any words of advice? Should I look into Starband? I just don't want to lose more time, but I know the Doc Band has such good results. Should I give it another try?

Thanks for all your support.

I feel I may have been a bit dopey/naiive in my reply Meryl.  Having re-read everything , your heading 'big thankyou ' stuff , followed by all the problems youve had, surprised me initially (your apparent praise of what looked to me like an unskilled outfit) , but then the penny dropped. Legalities of 'dissing a company' could be expensive !  Anyway, Im sure people in your area will be extra careful who they choose , so thats good.

Have you paid all the money out for one helmet? I honestly dont know where you would go from here if you have. Hopefully your paed will get something sorted.  I am so sorry for your predicament. Keep us posted.

Hi Pamela,I don't know a lot about Meryl's experience, but I do know that most people going to CT in NJ are very happy. My daughter wore a starband, but I've been a member of this group (and now a moderator) for over 3 yrs, so have heard lots of stories. It sounds like Meryl is having problems and I hope they are resolved quickly. I am going to respond to her post too - but just wanted to mention you may be misreading things.

Good Morning~

Thank you to all of you that have been reading my post. I appreciate all of your feedback. Maybe I should clarify my post. Yes, it is true that I am having difficulties getting a band to fit. However, my post was to be directed to the staff at CT in NJ. I just want them as well as others going to them that their sfforts are appreciated. I think more often than not, we don't take the time to appreciate the work that people in this line of work do. It is because of this staff that I am still taking my son up there. And yes I am frustrated, but at the same time, prosthetics are not any always an easy fit. I am aware of human error coupled with machinery. I am sure that there is no bad intentions here. If thet could get the fit, they would. I couldn't highlight my positive experience with the staff without giving background as to why I was writing it. The issues with the

band are separate from this. In every aspect of life, we can't knock the middlemen down just because they are trying to do their work. Tomorrow is a new day....Keep a positive thought for us...

Hi Meryl,Sorry to hear this is so tough. I really don't think I've heard of such a hard time fitting a baby. However I'm not sure I would recommend a different product. My daughter wore a starband with no fit issues, but from reading posts here for the past 3 yrs, it seems CT is one of the better products in terms of getting the fit right. Also they have a lot of back and forth with the headquarters where the bands are made (as you know). From what I know with starband the ortho works independently from the manufacturer and sends the scan off and gets the band back. They are pretty much on their own in terms of getting the fit right. I would suggest you try to get Purvey to do a conference call with you if possible and get the HQ to explain if there are some problems with the fit due to your babies headshape etc. Many people have a plagio brachy combo, but maybe there is something about your son's particular head that makes it tough

(just can't figure out why else it would take 4 bands). It is possible that they make a bad band now and then (quality control) but that wouldn't explain 3 bad fits.-christinesydney, 3.5 yrs, starband grad> >> > There are times when you go to work and feel as though you have one of those thankless jobs. Many people have a plagio brachy combo, but maybe there is something about your son's particular head that makes it

tough (just can't figure out why else it would take 4 bands). It is possible that they make a bad band now and then (quality control) but that wouldn't explain 3 bad fits.

However, there are more days than not that you understand why you have chosen the profession that you have. I would like to extend my gratitude to the entire staff at Cranial Technologies in NJ. It's because of their kindness and caring ways that make their job so important to families like mine. Briefly let me share my story. Approximately a month ago, I took my son up to CT in NJ. Our first visit revealed that my son was on the severe side of plagio. and brachio.. Our clinician, Purvey, spent a great deal of time explaining everything. I was confident that I made the right choice with this company. A week later, my son's helemt came in. I thought it seemed too big, but what did I know. We

live about 60 miles away, and traffic was bumper to bumper that night. By the time we got home, it was bedtime. You could probably> imagine the terror I felt when I woke in the middle of the night to screaming. I walked into my son's room to find the helmet covering his eyes. I immediately fixed it and he went back to bed. It happened again and by the third time I just took the helmet off. The next morning, I called the office and spoke with my favorite guy, Darren. He has such a great sense of humor and still manages to be incredibly professional. I explained the situation and he immediately conveyed my message to Purvey. She in turn called me back and listened to what I was saying. Not once did she pasify me or make me feel that I was doing something wrong. She then spoke with corporate and they decided to rescan and make a new helmet. They made this decision without even seeing the helmet. They listened to me and believed my observation. That

was a big plus in my book. The next day I went back up to Paramus and my son was rescanned. Purvey did a scan comparison and found my son> to be tilting forward in the first one. The next week I took my son back for his helmet and I thought we had a perfect fit. Boy was I wrong. The helmet was moving way too much. Purvey, again spoke with corporate, and decided to remake the helmet. Yes, I was frustrated. But more than anything, I was concerned that this helmet may not be good for him. I wasn't questioning the product or the results...just the fit with my child. Purvey assured me that she would do whatever it took to get it right. And that brings me to today. Today, my son received his 3rd helmet. It certainly seems like a better fit, but I haven't faced the middle of the night yet....... I can't say at this point whether the helmet is a perfect fit, but I can say that the treatment that we have received at CT in NJ has been nothing short of

outstanding. The time and energy that this entire office has put into my son has been incredible. The compassion and involvement that Purvey has> kindly given to me has been well worth my long trips there and back. I don't know the outcome yet, but I do know that there are a lot of caring people out there that are in the right profession. With that said, THANK YOU CT in NJ.> > > > Meryl Patmore> >>

Hi Meryl,

Just wanted to add my 2cents. My son (Doc Band Grad 9/2007) was also fitted and

treated by CT in Paramus, NJ and his orthotist was also Purvi(the most senior

orthotist at this location) who was wonderful throughout the entire process. My

son was an " older " candidate at the ripe old age of 13 months when he wore his

band from CT (Long story but he wore an ill fitting Hanger band from age 5 - 10

mo first). I highly recommend CT at this location, my son got great results. I

think what may or may not be an issue now with CT is they used to do a cast of

the head which I think is much more accurate then the laser scan that they take

now. The cast was molded to their specific head shape and then the helmet was

made from the exact mold taken. I think the problem with the laser is that if

the child moves at all it can throw off the measurements for the helmet. DO you

know by any chance if they still do casting there ? You can try and ask them to

try it that way especailly since you have been thru so many helmets already.

If you have any other ques. feel free to ask and I will answer them as best as I

can!

Good Luck to you!

Hi ,

I just spoke with CT today and my son is going to be rescanned tomorrow. I can't tell you how many times I have asked about him being casted. They keep telling me that the DSI is more accurate. I think I may pursue having them do it because at least I can feel comfortable knowing I did everything to get it right. Trust me, I don't want to go elsewhere. Hopefully this 4th band will be the right one. I will certainlt keep you posted on the next step....whatever that may be. Thanks for caring~

Thanks for your input. It is frustrating, but I am confident that it will be resolved. Hopefully I am the first and the last of the 4 bands....

Just to add my 2 cents...my son was casted for his first band at CT and "scanned" for his second and both bands fit him perfectly. CT doesn't really do a scan, it's called digital service imaging (DSi), it's actually a 3D photo taken in a split second from every angle, so it's pretty accurate, since they can also turn around and verify (with headquarters) that they got good posture and a good image before you leave the office (I don't believe the star scanner or similar can do that). I'm still so perplexed about the fit issue. It's a really unusual case (from what I've heard in the 1.5 years I've been on this board, no one has gone through 4 bands at CT), I'm sure Purvi and Jeanne (creator/owner) , etc., are just as frustrated as you are. I REALLY hope they can get it right this time. Hi Meryl,

My son had to wear a band from CT in NJ for almost 5 weeks that never fit him right. He didn't experience much skin irritation, but it wouldn't stop shifting around.

Finally, Purvi decided to re-make his band. She was very diplomatic throughout the whole process- listening to my concerns, ensuring that she tried to fix the problem by adjusting the band. But he needed a new band.

His new band was perfect! We have seen (he actually went from 17mm asymmetry to 6mm with the old band) more correction in 3 weeks than we did in 5 weeks in the ill-fitting one.

The first band was made from a cast. I thought that would be flawless, too. The second band was made from the DSi scanner.

I know that every scan, every mold has the potential margin of error. I think your son has

somehow got stuck in that margin. I think that your son was about the same age as my son when he was banded (3-4 months?) and it's hard to avoid a growth spurt around that time or for the following few months. If we hadn't done the scan and had the new one in 6 days, we would have narrowly missed a growth spurt (again). I believe the growth at the first visit (5 days later) w/ the new band was over 2mm!

Purvi is a great orthotist, CT is pretty much the industry standard and I hope that 4th times a charm for you! You deserve it!

Hi ~

What pictures did you see? Also, I took my son yesterday and they did a DSI and he was also casted. Hopefully they can use the dat from each to correct the problem. We should be getting the new band by Monday. Tightly cross those fingers. :)

Hi Meryl,I did look at your son's pictures and his head is a little different shape than most babies (although there is lots of variety). I assume that is why the fit is harder. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this time the fit will be right. Please keep us posted on band #4.-christinesydney, 3.5 yrs, starband grad> > >> >> > >> > There are times when you go
