Guest guest
My Dr. is also having me do the high protein diet before surgery to help shrink my liver. He told me it is so he can get around it with out damaging it during the lap procedure. If I can not shrink it before surgery it is safer for him to do it open. I dont care either way as long as he can still do the surgery. Good luck. > Shrink your liver? What do you mean? Guest guest
I was told the same. I have a fatty liver and to make the Lap procedure easier, they ask you to go on a low fat/low sugar diet for two weeks. I was told three Atkins shakes and maybe a little turkey or chicken. Guest guest
Hi. Before I had my Lap RNY, I was put on a 10 day pre-op diet. The 1st 7-days wasn't so bad...here is a copy of my menu... Breakfast -- SF Carnation Instant Breakfast w/ 1/3cup Non-Fat Powdered Milk; Snack -- Carb Solution Bar or Fruit Juice Lunch -- Low Fat Sandwich or small salad, 1/2 SF CIB Snack -- Carb Solution Bar or Fruit Juice Dinner -- 2-4 oz of lean ground beef, pork or chicken or fish, small salad, 1/2 SF CIB After Dinner -- Fruit Drink My surgeon said i could have all the diet soda's and unsweetened tea i wanted, Then on days 8-9-10: Breakfast-- High Protein Meal Replacement or SF CIB Mid-AM -- 1 cup Broth or Fruit Drink Replacement (Protein) Lunch -- HPMR or SF CIB Mid PM -- 1 cup Broth or Fruit Drink Dinner -- HPMR or SF CIB After Dinner -- Fruit Drink Then nothing to eat or drink after Midnight the day before surgery. I must say that I lost 10lbs, which was enough to shrink the fatty liver. I would say all in all, it wasn't bad. If you have any questions, gimme a holler, and I'll see if I can help you.
