Guest guest
My son was diagnosed with mild/moderate plagio and no one mentioned brachy to us, but the numbers we got were cir. 44 mm, cranial length 14 cm, width 13.5 cm, cephalic incex 96.4, and 6mm. The orthotist said average is 4-5mm and recommends a band for 6+. Sounds like my son has brachy too--probably more severely than the plagio from what I'm reading here, but I hadn't heard the term from the neurosurgeon or the orthotist. And it looks more flat on one side than in the back to me... --Meredith > > > > > > Maybe this has been discussed before. I am wondering if > repositioning > > > a child with plagio can cause brachy. Guest guest
With a CI of 96.4%, your son definitely has brachy. In fact, his number are pretty close to where my daughter started: CI of 98% and 8mm asymmetry. You probably notice the plagio more than you do the brachy because it's uneven. However if you take profile pictures of your son, you should notice how flat the back of his head is. Also, top view pictures will show that his head is almost as wide as it is long while in fact it should be 2/3 longer than wide.Did you get your measurements from a starscanner?LeilaMaysa, 13 months old, week 3 in DOC band 2http://mymaysa.wordpress.com/ From: mwschizer <mwschizer@...>Subject: Brachy and Plagio measurements/numbersPlagiocephaly Date: Tuesday, February 24, 2009, 8:30 AM My son was diagnosed with mild/moderate plagio and no one mentioned brachy to us, but the numbers we got were cir. 44 mm, cranial length 14 cm, width 13.5 cm, cephalic incex 96.4, and 6mm. Guest guest
Your son has Brachycephaly which is measured by the Cephalic Index which is the Cranial Breadth/Cranial Length - in your case, 13.5/14 - 96.4% ideal ratio - 78% normal - 73-83% moderate - 83.1% to 87.9% severe - 88% and higher 6 mm of plagio would be considered mild.
