referral letter +OT NYC travel questions?

Hello Everyone,

I haven't posted much, but I do enjoy learning from all of yours.

Question 1:

Should I ask my PCP for a written letter of referral (why insurance should

approve a DS out-of-plan rather than an RNY in-plan) to bring to my surgical

consultation (I have a sample letter for her, but don't know if I should save

the info for appeal...if need be.)? or just bring a completed referral form

supplied by the insurance co.

Question 2:

Does the PCP's referral or letter, go to the insurance co. along with the

surgeon's info packet -or- does she send it in herself, from her office? She is

very willing to help...but very busy so I'm trying to do as much as I can on my

own. I just don't have this insurance coordination stuff straight in my head,

yet.

I have done tons of research...all my pre-op tests are complete (except for the

immediate pre-op blood work) I have my blood work, ekg, sleep study report,

nutritionist and psych evaluation ready to go. I just want as complete a

package as possible for the surgeon. Hopefully it will speed things along.

O.T.- NYC resident question???

My 12 yr old son will be traveling with me to my appt. (we live 6hrs north of

NYC)

What are some fun/educational things to do after the appointment?

Bronx Zoo? NY Aquarium? Any other suggestions? Places to stay?

I'm a country bumpkin'...the trip to the city scares me more than the surgery!

Traffic and missed exits and the like. So keep your ideas simple. I wouldn't

know how or where to get on or off subways or buses.

Getting lost doesn't scare me...just being really late for my appointment or

pissing other motorists off because I'm in the wrong lane ...does. :-)
