Guest guest
Hi , As an RN I do check my patients for postural hypotension at the hospital for the doctor. Here is a nice link that explains it: http://www.drdaveanddee.com/hypotension.html To make sure it is true postural hypotension (Low blood pressure that " bottoms out " ...goes low with your position) One needs to stand in place for 10 minutes. If you can't stand in place without fainting in ten minutes you do have postural hypotension. The most common cause is dehydration. A simple guide for drinking is to take the body weight. Divide it in half and drink that many ounces of water for the day. 300 pounds divided by 2 = 150. 150 ounces is an example of home much water one should drink. That is roughly 18 cups of water a day. I hope this helps. Back to deep lurk, >> Deb called from work to check on me a couple times yesterday as she was worried. I was ok, just feeling pretty dizzy and etc. When she got home, she checked my bp in all positions.. lying.. 102/68, sitting.. 102/68 and standing.. 80/60. We now believe that my blacking out was due to the drop in my bp.. postural hypotension. However, we dont know what is causing my bp to bottom out. > I have been rendered to sitting, reading, lying in bed, etc..
