Guest guest
, Write a letter to the medical records dept asking for them.... I worded mine this way: To Whom It May Concern: I would like to request a copy of my medical records, in particular my letter of medical necessity and the surgical report. I am a patient of Dr Welker and need my records as he no longer practices at OHSU. I am enclosing pertinent informaton below to make it easier for you. Please make sure the surgical report is included. Thank you Then I signed my name and listed my address, city, state, phone number, soc sec # date of birth and OHSU medical number. I did not have to pay for it, I think becuz I mentioned he does not practice there anymore and its imperative I have my records. Guest guest
> I read somewhere that as obese, we build denser bone structures to support our weight. Therefore, we are heavier at the same size as someone who has never been obese. Does anyone have documentation to back up that theory? ** I have not found documentation yet and I would personally dispute it only because too many of us have osteoporosis and our bones are shot to hell. I realize some of that is because of the calcium deficiency and rapid weight loss but if our bones were so much 'denser' to begin with why or how would they get so bad so quick. I think ours are barely normal to begin with and then we loss what we have quickly. I'd love to see a study of pre op obese women in their 30's and 40's have dexa scans and then about 2yr. out another one - using calcium and weight bearing - vs. not using. sue
Guest guest
, one question I would ask is what if there is a complication after the surgery..What happens to you? You are not at a hospital. (complications could happen...it is a surgery) Hello all, I'm new to these lits, I've been " lurking " for a few weeks, trying to get questions answered thru others' emails. I started looking into wls a few weeks ago, I contacted the Bariatric Treatment Center via their website, and they sent me a brouchre (sp) within 2 days time. And the next day the patient rep. called me at home and answered my questions. I have a consult with the cheif of surgery at their corporate offices/ hospital April 13th. It's only a 2 hour drive and my husband is taking me, he has questions too I think. One thing that bothers me about him, is when I had him read the booklet, all he said was, " sounds good " and hasn't said anything else. He has looked at a few " before and after " pics online, but nothing else, positive or negitive about the surgery and when I try to discuss it with him he is indifferent, meaning is supportive, but asks no questions or trys to keep the conversation on the subject going. Maybe he's just tired. He works 12 - 16 hours a day... I did go online to see if our insurance would cover this type of surgery, ( it is in the exculsions list) there was another list member that stated hers was an exculsion too, mine was exactaly the same thing, word for word. When I told the BTC rep this she said not to worry, that 75% of their patients get approval, they'd handle everything for me. I'm a little nervous and not sure I'll ask the doctor all the right questions. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to ask? Here are a few questions I've thought of..... 1) How long does the pre-surgery preperation and testing take? 2) What all does it entail? 3) What if I can't document all my attempts at weight loss meaning, SlimFast, Metabolife Pills, Dr. Atkins Diet, Nutri-System, Craig, .. I didn't keep any receipts from these. And have only tried prescription Xenical Pills, but could only afford them for 2 months. My insurance wouldn't cover the cost, they were 179.00 for a 1 months supply! 4) How long would I be off from work? I have a desk job. 5) How many of these surgeries has the Doctor done? And is he Board Certified? Does he do the lap or open surgery? What would he recommend? 6) I've " chatted " online to others, what are these " drains " they speak of? 7) Will I need to try to loose weight before surgery? What if I can't? 8) What about vitimin supplements? Will I need to take them? With a small stomach will I get all I need thru food? 9) Are there any support groups near Coldwater, Michigan? 10) What about after all the weight loss, the loose skin? If my insurance won't cover reconstruction? Then what? Wouldn't that be as difficult to cope with as the fatty weight? 11) How important is support from co-workers? Because from " casual " conversations, most are against anyone having this surgery. None are over weight and the one that was, becides me used otc drugs and starvation to lose nearly 70 lbs, so they think anyone can do it that way. Also, Do I even need to tell my boss what type of surgery I'm having? I really don't want to deal with the " grief " that I know I'd get from at least one co- worker, and we happen to share the same office too! Sorry for rambling................... Guest guest
Yup, that scales so old I remember it being there when I was a kid! lol no joking! Antway, that crossed my mind today, maybe try just 1/2 days at work first and see, well anyway I guess I'm getting waaaaaaaaay ahead of myself here huh? lol Not even seen the dr. yet lol Re: That's hard to believe that a dr's scale only goes to 225! A lot of tall men weigh more than that. Anyway, if your job is a desk job it's possible to go back earlier. I went back after 1 week from my surgery and I felt great. I had LAP and I wasn't all that sore, but having a desk job enabled me to take it easy and stay off my feet. I also thought if I needed it, I would just work 1/2 days for the first week, but I didn't need to. Good luck,
Guest guest
Do you like/can you enjoy liver? Calves' liver? Chicken livers cooked with rice and green peppers and onions? Breaded liver in gravy? Or in tomato sauce? If so, that'll help give you iron, too. Fiddly recommends Floradix, an iron supplement she gets in health food stores. I think 1 unit a day until surgery, and two a day post op. Although sometimes I make the mistake of looking at all I used to do that I currently can't, I am beginning to realize that when God closed a door for me, He opened a window.
