Guest guest
a, Please try the supplements!! You may just be in for a pleasant surprise. My friend has a similar child and there is a definite relationship between when she gives her child the supps and when she doesnt!! Huge! Also, these kids have so many imbalances going on--usually the diet isnt enough to rebalance things. Pro bio gold two times per day, zinc at night, colostrum, good multiple vitamin etc. Good luck and hang in there!! Please try the supps! Phyllis, Dont give up my friend. Two weeks is not long enough to see much good and for those who have withdrawals, not going to see much good at all yet. But your boy probably feels like crap right now as he has been drugged for quite a while. Now he doesnt have that drug and he has a lot to deal with--new senses, new feelings, etc not to mention his body feels pretty lousy. It will be quite soon though that you should see this taper off as long as you are 100%. keep going and begin to learn whether he has yeast issues a well and what supps he needs. Highly recommend those I mentioned above. Hang in there....you never know, after this diet is in full swing, your boy may have a great school year after all. Take care and hang in there, Re: I REALLY NEED YOUR HELP NOW!!!!! > > >>>>>I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!!!! starts 2nd grade > next week and he is worse now then he was a couple of > weeks ago (before we started the GFCF diet). I wrote about him a couple of days ago, because I believe he fits the Asperger's label, rather than basic autism. His language was an issue, but he's always had language, it just came in slowly. As he gets older, his behavior seems to get worse. He doesn't hit, bite or kick, but he screams and defies everyone and everything. I was literally in tears driving him home from his first day in Kindergarten. I got there early to talk with the teacher, and they weren't in the class. I decided to wander around and as I neared one hallway, I heard him screaming. He was saying, " Let me go " , " I want to get out of here " , " Don't touch me " , " Leave me alone " . I peered out a window onto the playground and there he was being held by his teacher. The other kids were playing, but she was holding his hand and making him stay in time out, for misbehaving. It was awful, he just kept screaming and making a huge spectacle of himself. When they came in the teacher told me he wouldn't stay in his seat, wandered around the class, took things and touched things he was told to not touch. He wouldn't make choices. He wouldn't make decisions. The only thing he would do was scream and yell. He didn't want to follow the routine at all. I know its new to him, and we're living in a new city and a new home, but I don't know what to do. My life is totally controlled by his behavior. I envy every child I see displaying good behavior. Don't get me wrong, my son can have a very loveable personality, but it's his way or the highway 85% of the time. His other classmates were so well behaved, and here he was screaming and crying, ranting and raving. I'm disgusted with him. The diet has helped a lot, but not enough. I don't know if I should try supplements or finally cave in to trying medication. I've always been against it, but if it would help, and I knew for sure, I would have him pop a pill in a minute. All the OT in the world hasn't help improve things. I've brushed him, swang him, tried listening therapy, tried cranial sacral therapy, and nothing seems to work. > > By the way, I too considered a beer or glass of wine when I got home, but I opted for a coke. Guest guest
Dear a and Phyllis, I wish we all lived near each other! I don't know anyone else with kids who behave so badly and it would just be nice for a change to feel like I have company in my struggle. This list is great but sometimes you just need a real person who understands how hard this is. Good Luck. -- In GFCFKids@y..., " a Sessing " <pjandkids@m...> wrote: > > >>>>>I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!!!! starts 2nd grade > next week and he is worse now then he was a couple of > weeks ago (before we started the GFCF diet). Guest guest
a, Well, I have to say, you have tried a lot more things than I have tried. He goes for OT once a week at a private clinic and he has OT at school twice a week but I have been unable to get anything started at home, which is where I think most of the problem comes from. With 2 kids with sensory issues and Aspergers, plus trying to get a handle on this diet, and trying to figure out how to get my house clean so that their allergies wont be so bad, I am so overwhelmed I dont even know where to start with a home sensory diet. Everytime I ask the OTs they just hand me a huge list of sensory activities and say just do some of these. Well I need a schedule. I am a list person and I need to have a schedule in front of me and then I can follow it. Thats why I am thinking that if I can come up with maybe a 2 or 3 week menu (of normal foods, not tofu burgers - sorry my kids hate tofu, or asparagus, etc.) including boxed lunches and snacks, then I will be able to do this. Anyone got anything out there like this? Recipes included? Thats why I think I am feeling so overwhelmed, because I feel so out of control and unorganized. This is just too new to me. I look at that huge food list on GFCFdiet and I go into panic mode. Just give me a menu and recipes and I will be fine. By the way, I took the kids to the lab for the RAST test. Yes, by myself, and yes, both at the same time. Crazy you say? I thought so too, but kept begging me all morning to go and get it over with (probably had something to do with me telling him that if he was good, we would go to the toystore after for a toy) and guess what. They were both wonderful. Nothing like at the allergist office. I opted for a private lab instead of the hospital, because I knew that the waiting room was pretty sealed off from the rest of the building (except the blood draw room) and so I could let the kids run around and not worry about them getting into too much trouble. Guess what, they didnt even run around. I brought GFCF fruit snacks with me ( a real treat that they havent had in months) and didnt even yell and scream. He got alittle scared at the needle and kept asking when they were gonna be done, but he didnt even cry (which I told him he could do if he wanted to). Tyler was really upset, but mostly because of the band on his arm and the fact that they were holding his arm then the needle. Needles have never bothered him (hypo sensitive issue?) and he cries more from the bandaids then anything else. All in all it was a dream visit and it is all over with. Hopefully now in a couple of weeks I will hear some news. Any quick recipes you have would be really appreciated. I have a birthday party coming up next month and I need a quick meal idea that we can bring to a science center. I mostly need lunch and breakfast ideas, with an occasional entree - I think I got most of those taken care of ( although a menu would be great if anyone has one.) Thanks again for all your help everyone. ===== Phyllis Parmelee Visit my website: THE 100 ACRE WOOD CHILD CARE - My Brand New Website Like my website? Want to know how you can get one, too? When I do bake, I do it in huge batches, so I can freeze and reheat things. I do this with taco meat, chicken nuggets, breaded pork tenderloin, pizza, muffins, cookies, waffles, pancakes, donut holes, english muffin pizzas, bread, bagels, cupcakes (no frosting), salisbury steak, beef stroganoff, chili, etc.. I'm sure I've forgotten many. I also make at least 2-3 meals per week that are " quick " like; hotdogs, brats, spaghetti and pizza made from frozen crusts. My autistic son is not picky, so for school lunches I send; nuggets, pizza, many variety of sandwiches, chili, spaghetti, hot dogs and tacos. However, I've been lucky that the aide will go and warm his foods for him. He would still eat them cold, but she warms them anyway. It's time consuming to provide lunches like this, but I prepare them the night before. As far as breakfast goes, my son eats dry cereals, gfcf bread with cinnamon sugar on top, donut holes, waffles and pancakes. For side dishes I use; spanish rice, frozen tater tots, french fries, boxed mashed potatoes, boxed scalloped potatoes (yes gfcf), baked potatoes, fruits, breads, muffins, corn on the cob, and carrots. None of my kids are big on veggies. However, is easily talked into eating just about anything. All I have to say is, " no icecream unless you finish everything on your plate " . He does, everytime. The diet is probably easier for me because, number one - it's not new to us, and number two - my son no longer requires the intense therapy he once did. Anytime you want to bug me for recipes, feel free to do so. If you have one you want me to help you convert, feel free to send it. I rarely have disasters anymore. I couldn't say that two years ago!!! aGet more from the Web. FREE MSN Explorer download : http://explorer.msn.com
