Guest guest
, I hope you decided NOT to have surgery with Dr. Schweitzer. Clearly he is not experienced in the DS procedure and does not believe in it. I hope everyone will see this as a major warning sign. I know I would not put my life in his hands. Kim B. Guest guest
: I am also from MD and because I could not find a qualified surgeon here I went to NY and had my surgery performed by Dr. Gagner (Mt. Sinai). My experience was very positive. Since then, as you have been told, Dr Elariny is now performing Lap DS surgery in Arlington VA. Kathie from MD Lap DS, Dr. Gagner, NY Mt. Hi : Judging by your experience with this guy, my advice to anyone considering him is RUN, DO NOT WALK, to the nearest exit! This arrogant A$$hole seems almost determined to maim and/or kill someone rather than bothering to get the training that he needs, (whether he thinks he does or not), to perform this surgery at a halfway competent level. Guest guest
I think there is some validity to the idea that the DS is not that difficult for a very experienced bariatric surgeon to start doing. However, most of them at least observe another DS, often are the second surgeon on a few before moving into independent practice doing the DS. There are some things that only an experienced DS surgeon would know and could pass on. There are some videos I think that Dr Baltasar (Spain) made that some surgeons have used for educational purposes. I would feel very cautious in having a surgeon who didn't at least talk with other DS surgeons and try and gather information about it prior to doing it. I'd really want a surgeon to have been present and hands on for several DS procedures prior to mine. This isn't like needing a year fellowship as the new surgeons just coming out of residency do. But some mentoring seems important. in Seattle > But when I asked him, he said has done no DS > surgeries to date.
