Amelia,

Yes, this is an adventure! It's like entering an alternate universe, this SCD! It is a small victory for me to begin to be so in tune with my body. Before I just felt ill all the time with anything I ate and didn't have a clue what was bothering me. I'm realizing just how much I have to back off and take it slow!

Darlene,That is great news! And even though you tried the almond flour too soon, at least you have an idea of what to expect when something doesn't agree with you. Amelia

Hi Amelia,

I was having exactly what BTVC said to do, except not the gelatin. Dry cottage cheese mixed with yogurt and eggs for breakfast, chicken soup with only the pureed carrots thrown back in and chicken or beef, the same for supper and also made the cheesecake.

By now I am on day 7. The first five days I spent on the sofa feeling dead exhausted and a raging headache (my "normal" chronic headache twice as bad), some nausea and sore gut. Yesterday and today I am beginning to re-surface. Abdominal swelling has gone way down and energy is better. Except yesterday I tried an almond muffin with great anticipation! Yummy, except that it produced a swollen, aching gut. Too soon, I know.

I am so excited about finding SCD and feeling its effects in so brief a time! I am fortunate as I do not have UC, IBD or other illnesses. My heart goes out to the many people represented in this group.

Darlene,Welcome! Just to start out, C and D are opposite ends of the same spectrum when it comes to intestinal dysbiosis. There are several people in the group who suffer with C. Since you were already doing SCD light before officially starting the SCD intro, you most likely killed off some bad bacteria already. Which of the intro foods are you eating? Hi there,I am new to SCD and to this site so not sure if I'm doing this correctly. But wanted to respond as I was here searching for others who have felt rotten right from the start gate of the diet. After being off work for the past 2 years working with doctors trying to figure out what's wrong with me, I stumbled upon "intestinal dysbiosis" in reading the book "Adrenal Fatigue", which I have suffered from for years. I didn't know what this "intestinal dysbiosis" was and researched it on the internet. Even the "natural" doctors never pinpointed it. I found that I had an overwhelming number of symptoms that totally fit the picture, and during my search I read about BTVC. I do not have Crohn's or UC or been diagnosed with any full blown disease but my symptoms are enough to have knocked me out of the workforce... and they have been building for years and years. I look back and see signs of impaired digestion and constipation back into

childhood. My appendix came out when I was 18, my gallbladder came out in 2008 at the age of 48. I'm done with removing organs and I want to get at the underlying cause!I have a constantly distended belly that makes me look pregnant, severe fatigue, liver pain, abdominal pain and upset, many food allergies, and a chronic 24/7 headache which I've had for 23 years. The site talks so much about diarrhea. I have none but would be constantly constipated were it not for the CleanseMore capsules I take. Just staying away from my allergic list didn't help. In January this year I read about eliminating grains and sugar for dysbiosis. I did this and within only a couple of weeks I started feeling a change in my abdomen. Then I decided to "do it right", ordered the book, starting checking the Legal/Illegal list on the website, and 2 days ago I started the intro diet. I have felt absolutely terrible. The first day some nausea, severe bloat, stomach ache,

extreme fatigue and headache. I barely moved off the sofa all day. More of the same yesterday, day 2. Today I will be introducing other foods. I was encouraged to read your message this morning. It must be the die-off and I will continue on this and wait for things to improve. If anybody out there has a similar experience, I'd love to hear from you!Ciao! Darlene>> Josie,> > I doubt it is die-off so soon, but it could be her immune system trying to recuperate from the 6MP. Were the eggs fried? She might be sensitive to protein/fats if her diet before had a lot of starches and carbs. The body will adjust to whatever food source it is mainly getting, so if she is going from higher starches/carbs to more dense food

that is higher in protein and fats, there will be a shift in her metabolism of these foods and it might cause the fatigue and nauseousness. I know I did the Atkins diet (more extreme than SCD, but causes a similar shift in the metabolism). I experienced slight nausea and fatigue for the first 3-5 days. If you do get die-off symptoms, they usually set in about day 3. Mostly the symptoms are flu-like, but in the case of UC/CD, if you were symptomatic when starting SCD, your die-off symptoms could be worsening of the UC/CD symptoms--like more frequency or more constipation, cramping, wind, etc. Take life easy> for a few days, take Epsom Salt baths (2 cups in a warm bath up to your navel) soaking about 10-15 minutes. It will help the body get rid of the toxins and to normalize itself (http://www.epsomsal tcouncil. org/health_ benefits. htm). Things usually

improve by about day 10 or so if you are experiencing severe die-off. > > Hang tough! The healing process isn't linear. You will likely take a step forward and two back sometimes, but it is important to hang in there and look for little signs of improvement, not necessarily big signs. The body became ill slowly and it will become healthy slowly too.> > Amelia> Husband UC 9 years, SCD 19 months> LDN 3 mg> > > > > > ____________ _________ _________ __> > To: BTVC-SCD@yahoogroup s.com> Sent: Sun, January 31, 2010 10:43:01 PM> Subject: Can die-off start the first day?> s> > Hi. My 12y/od CD and I (no condition, just doing SCD for support) just

started the diet this morning with eggs and gelatin which went down fine. At about 3 pm we ate the chicken soup and 30 min. later a bite of the DCCC cheesecake with a tsp of yogurt. She told me she felt nauseous after eating both the soup and dccc/yog. Could this be die-off already? I wouldn't expect her to be nauseous from the organic chicken soup with carrot puree). I, too feel a little queasy and a slight stomach ache, but she went right to bed for a nap. I think she is worried she is starting to feel like she used to when she was first diagnosed. (She hasn't had any major symptoms for months - no C,D, or tummy aches, but once in a while she does get nauseous).> > I should also mention that she stopped taking her meds (38 mg 6 mp) earlier this week (per doctor's orders because her white blood cell count was way down). He wanted her to start again at 25 mg on Friday but we held off hoping that she could start SCD during our little

"holiday" from the 6mp and hopefully never go back. I understand it is ok to quit 6mp without dosing down - has anybody done this and did they experience any side effects?> > Thank you in advance for your help. I don't want this first setback to derail us.> > Josie, Mom to 12yd CD>
