Guest guest
I was diagnosed with mild UC a year ago. Nobody mentioned Vit D. Out of curiosity, I made an appointment with the gynecologist to check my hormones, as I was having menopause symptoms, and along with that she checked my vitamin D. It turns out, I was deficient. If I had not done this, I would never have known. My GI and regular doctor have never even brought up the subject, and the gyn would not have checked if I had not asked about menopause. Nobody related Vit D to GI problems, and I had no clue about the connection at the time. I was treated with vit D, but they did not recommend a recheck as they told me it was not routine. I asked for a recheck at the next check-up, and my levels were at the lower end of normal. I take Vit D regularly now. I never went outdoors without sunscreen, protective clothing and a hat, and I am indoors a lot. So yes, it is worth checking vit D levels, and you may have to ask for the test. PJ > > I don't recall this being posted yet. Apparently researchers at McGill University have recently discovered that Vitamin D deficiency may play a role in Crohn's disease. I'm going to ask to have my son 's levels checked at his next Dr. visit. > > http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2010-01/muhc-vds012710.php > > Here is a similar article from Mercola: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2010/02/20/vitamin-d-fights-c\ rohns-disease.aspx >
