Guest guest
Hi I was given orange juice in the clinic, like 2 days after surgery, so I'd presume that means it's OK. If you're worried, you could add a bit of water the first time you try it. I'm nearly 8 weeks post-op from upper & lower. I was told I can eat " normally " as from the begining of April but I don't think I'll be able to manage. I've been blending absolutely everything into a puree. I think I'll be very careful for the first couple of weeks. I've not really decided the kind of thing I'll be eating, but it'll basically be anything I like that doesn't need much chewing. I would have thought it would be possible to eat pretty much anything as long as its cut into small pieces that you can just swallow if you realise you can't actually chew them. My boyfriend has abandoned me for the weekend. He's gone to see a friend and I decided not to go because I didn't want to annoy them every mealtime. I'm going to get bored this weekend though! I have my cat to keep me company though. Good luck! > > I have a question for those who have already made it to the soft > foods. Guest guest
I started drinking orange juice the afternoon of my surgery. As a matter of fact, I drank all the orange juice on my floor (didn't like apple or pineapple) - the nurses showed my husband where to get it and he took care of it for me from then on. Watch out for fresh pineapple, I found that stung more than anything else! Some soft foods: [1] soft-scrambled egg [2] whizzed up mac & beef (small enough to swallow without chewing too much) [3] mac & cheese [4] fish & chips (soak with vinegar, pull back batter, mush with fork, same with chips) [5] any vegetable can be cooked to be soft enough to eat, like baby carrots, cauliflower, etc. [6] chicken can be soft enough to eat in small pieces (Swiss Chalet makes a great chicken soup that is chunk full of chicken pieces) [7] whizzed up corned beef with cabbage (whiz with some butter and chicken broth or it will be too dry) - just add mustard and you'll swear you're eating a corned beef sandwich [8] a rotisserie chicken can be done up the same way, whizzed to a slurry-like consistency which will firm up into a pate overnight I would recommend against pizza, hard breads, anything that requires a lot of chewing or wide opening. I'm a vegetarian now, so I no longer do any flesh foods (no meat, fowl or fish), but I enjoyed all of these and more during my recovery. If you're not wired, you can mush anything on a fork and squish it against your upper palate for flavour. > > I have a question for those who have already made it to the soft > foods.
