Guest guest
this is normal for a newly corrected foot with these shoes. The heel will drop eventually. HOWEVER... I have found that as opposed to the Markells, I do exactly opposite to get her heel deep in the back. I actually point her foot a bit and lie it into the shoe. Then I pull the tongue very tightly across the foot, so that it's totally straight against where it attaches to the side (no bunching/buckling) and hold it there. I then do the middle strap and let her foot relax while tightening. If it's too loose or the tongue bunches do again and/or smooth. It's a trick because the straps are coming from the totally wrong side of the shoes IMO. They should cinch with the tongue, not against it... And at first they do bunch a lot till they get worn in a little. But this above is how I get Darbi's heels down there and even remarked at how she was seated in there nicely when I sent the pics about the heel counter last summer. So it's worth a try. I did this with Christee's daughter when she was in these shoes and it did seem to work pretty well even though Lilee was at that time still not fully corrected (about 3mo old). Didn't go *all* the way in/down, but it did seem to allow the shoe to fit nice and tight into the back at least. Lilee has VERY chubby calves but all the little ones have these sweet little chubby ankles and calves so I can see how it'd be a little tricky with the little ones on this. Just make sure the middle strap is the tight one, second is the ankle and toes actually the one that doesn't need to be super duper tight. Just tight lol. A little heel rising in these shoes at first is ok though. You will see the heel drop and form over the next year or so and this is as it should be. Oh, they also stretch pretty quickly and those holes will also stretch out. Just watch it and don't make the extra hole too close to the other one or they'll blend eventually. Guest guest
Oh, for some reason I thought it's a week. Thanks for clearing it up. At least this way I won't get paranoid on day 7 > > > > > > And apparently there's a learning curve or I'm not too bright!! > >lol Or both... > > > > > > I can't seem to get 's chubby little feet into the shoes > >without the heel pulling WAY > > > up. Guest guest
So I guess my question now is: how much leeway do I have? How far up can the heel be while still being placed properly? I obviously don't want to cause detriment to what we've achieved, and if need be, I could drive to Iowa to be sure, but I (selfishly) don't want to make that trip just to hear " Oh, yeah, that's just right " or something along those lines, ya know? I suppose it would be worth hearing, though!! It seems like 's heel is anywhere from 1/4 " -1/2 " up from the base of the heel (elevated off the bottom/sole of the shoe) and this seems like too much. Further opinions would be helpful!! Guest guest
Marcus's feet are about the same. I don't think it's any cause for concern. > > >And apparently there's a learning curve or I'm not too bright!! lol > > >Or both... > > > > > >I can't seem to get 's chubby little feet into the shoes > > >without the heel pulling WAY > > >up. Guest guest
My son Elliot is about halfway through the full-time wear in the 's, and we had the same issue. His heel is lower now than it was when we started, but it still doesn't sit completely flat in the back. However, his foot looks terrific, and our doctor (Dr. Scher in Manhattan) is thrilled with the way everything is going, and we're on schedule to reduce the hours the first week of February. I found that using a sock that fit tightly on his foot helped a lot. We initially tried Old Navy ones but those always seemed a little loose - when we switched brands it made it a lot easier to get the foot further back. We've been using these thick bootie socks from Children's Place and they work great. Since they're tighter, I fold the top of the sock down over the boot to keep his ankle from getting that red elastic mark. Best of luck - we love the s and haven't had a sinlge problem with them. > > > >And apparently there's a learning curve or I'm not too > bright!! lol > > > >Or both... > > > > > > > >I can't seem to get 's chubby little feet into the shoes > > > >without the heel pulling WAY > > > >up. Guest guest
Thanks, ! I'm surprised to hear that thicker socks make it easier... I would have thought that thinner ones would make it easier to squeeze the little fatty foot in. :-) Funny you should say Old Navy, because that's exactly what we've been wearing since getting into the brace. Congrats on getting closer to lessening the hours! For whatever reason, Dr Ponseti only has in for 20/7 which seems low to me, but I trust his judgment. I actually have a hard time giving him the whole time out of the brace because he doesn't stay awake long enough!! lol It works well because he tolerates the brace quite well and I get to satisfy my paranoia, kwim?!? Thanks again for the reassurance... We plan on trying to get the positioning right tomorrow when he's a little more tolerant of our attempts. Guest guest
Well, we just waited until today when was more agreeable to try the s again, and viola! I did what you said, Kori, and pointed the toes upward and the heels are actually quite far down in both shoes (both club and non) so I'm happy!! is tolerating them quite well, as we had hoped. I have to admit that the swedish version are much easier to put on a squirmy infant, though!! I just have no idea how you'd be able to keep them on an older child since they're only held on via velcro... Kids are inventive and I can't imagine any child older than 6-9 months would NOT figure out how to take them off! But for the beginning--getting used to using a brace-- it was a WONDERFUL entry into the brace-wearing phase of our lives! Thanks, again, soooooo much for everyone's help and advice! I have no idea where we'd be without this board! Have a great holiday weekend! Stacee and 9/24/05 rcf, PM 20/7 > > I remember when Evy got his first pair (about 2 months old), there is that ventilation hole on each side of the heel and I could put a pencil in one hole and out the other - there was that much extra room. They really didn't seem to fit at all, but it wasn't long until it all came together. > > I dunno what else to say except bend his knee as you put the shoe on him and then buckle that center strap first, as tight as it'll go. Maybe trim the tongue so there's no excess material getting in the way of holding it all snug. > s. > > So the s are in hand... > > > And apparently there's a learning curve or I'm not too bright!! lol Or both... > > I can't seem to get 's chubby little feet into the shoes without the heel pulling WAY > up.
