Guest guest
Les, I know what you are saying. I see people report that they weigh 20 or more pounds more than me, and wear the same size as me. Maybe I'm accepting baggier clothing, or they are wearing tighter clothing...or as you said, maybe it is body shape. I have sizes 4-10 in my closet. The 10's are big, but comfy. In of New York...I always get a size larger...their stuff always seems to run small. I have a red suit that is a size 8, that fits just fine. Most things I get a 6 in...like the dress I just got for my son's wedding. I've seen people my height and even shorter at 150 lbs wearing size 6's...and wonder how they are shaped. Maybe they are denser, more muscle than me. It's curious, isn't it? Any comments from others on this? If you are say 150 and wear a size 6..and are about 5'4 " to 5'6 " ....tell us what body type you are....I'm sorta hourglass shaped with the time that has run out. 34 inch bust with 38 inch hips. I'm about 128 lbs and 5'6 " . Regards~ Jacque Distal RNY, 5/30/00 Drs. Guest guest
You know, I think our shape changes as we age. I do know that our middles tend to thicken a little, whether we've had children or not, and the hips spread a little, too. Sure, plastic surgery helps, but our shapes are still different than when we were in our 20's or even 30's. Don't ya think? in NJ ************************** > Les, I know what you are saying. Guest guest
I agree....when I got married, I was 5'7 " ...one inch taller than I am now, I weighed 147 lbs, and my measurements were 36-24-39. I know this because I was measured for my wedding dress that was made for me...and I just remember! I'm now 5'6 " , weigh 128 lbs, at 34-29-38. So yeah...a bit different. Funny, after three kids you'd think my hips would have broadened. But not! Lost the boobs, and waist got a bit bigger. But then, I'm nearly 20 lbs lighter...and I think I had a lot more muscle and bone mass then than now. I think that is the biggie here. BTW...no plastics ...yet! My ship would need to come in...and I see none on the horizon! Regards~ Jacque Distal RNY, 5/30/00 Drs. Guest guest
I think this can be attributed to many different factors: as one poster said earlier, it depends on the make, the lot, and the style. Also, I know that sizes are definitely larger now than they were say 15 or so years ago. What was size 12 then is larger nowadays. Also, as a morbidly obese person, I had alot of muscle from carrying around all of that extra weight, and I did alot of weight training after surgery (not been so good about that lately, due to falling off the wagon;literally; and getting all sorts of injuries, and to being out of " the mode " . That will definitely change your body shape compared to what you weigh. As they say: muscle weighs more than fat. Maybe age DOES have something to do with it, because when I weighed about 170 and was in tip top physical condition about 15 years ago, I was barely wearing a 13 (I am 5'10 " ). Now I am in an easy 14 and sometimes a 12, and I weigh anywhere from 195 to 205 (haven't weighed myself in awhile; I just go by how the clothes fit; they are a little snug these days!). Its funny how that varies from person to person! Re: Body shape/Les > You know, I think our shape changes as we age. Guest guest
Yes, I think our body shapes do change. I still have a waist but it isn't the 18inch waist I had when I was 17! (Yeah, I know...I didn't gain weight until I got to 19 years old and then it seemed that my metabolizum went wacko!) I still have a waist...more then they make clothes for...and still have the thunder thighs that I always have had. Granted when I had the 18 in waist the thunder thighs were pure muscle! (Artistic dance roller skater....mucho exercise! Hence the muscle!)Unfortunately for me roller skating + obesity = titanium knees! If clothes fit around my waist....then I can't get them over the thighs. If they fit the thighs I have to wear a belt to keep the waist where it belongs. I am girly SHAPED!!!! I have an hour glass figure .... Even though the sand as shifted ever so slightly and some of it has to be held up with steel girders! Guest guest
Since we are on the subject of bodies and weight, etc., I have a question that I hope someone can answer: When I had my bone scan done last year, the report shows bone density in both the lumbar spint and femoral neck and the percentages range from 110% to 144% and says that my bone denity is above normal for a woman my age. I realize this is all good but it makes me wonder if my bones are heavier than they would be normally. Anyone know the answer to this? I've been thinking about this ever since it read the report and especially since the PS said he wondered where I'm carring all my weight. Thanks, Beth jacquemil@... wrote: I agree....when I got married, I was 5'7 " ...one inch taller than I am now, I weighed 147 lbs, and my measurements were 36-24-39.
