Guest guest
Well, I did it. I called Pacificare today and told them I don't like my PCP, and they gave me a new one. He's only 1 mile from my house. I see him Friday. I may not like him, but it's progress....I still see the surgeon on Thursday. Guest guest
Well, I saw the surgeon today. He was a real devils advocate against surgery, but invited me to plead my case. Believe it or not, I liked that. He's not in favor of arbitrary surgery or revisions. So, we sat down, and went over everything I had to tell him, and the reports from my original surgery. Then he pointed out the risks to me, adhesions, complications, etc. I showed him the picture I had from the other surgeon, then he drew one for me, and the ultimate conclusion is that I do need surgery, I am a good candidate, and he's willing to do it. He wants to go over the test results that the GI has, do an ultra scan on my gall bladder (I asked him to take that out too, while he's in there), and then schedule me for surgery. I think, for a change, the real deciding factor for him was that I HAD done my homework, and I had an idea about what I was talking about. And I asked HIM, " Do YOU want to spend the rest of your life throwing up every day, and have YOU lost all your teeth because of what you've already gone through? " I told him, " I'm 47 years old. I took control of my medical heath 21 years ago, then let it fall by the wayside. I'm RETAKING CONTROL. I want more than another 21 years, and I don't want to spend it hugging a toilet. " He smiled and shook my hand. On the HMO (downside) of this, when I got to his office today, I was informed that the doctor couldn't see me, because the GI, and not my PCP had referred me. ARGGGGGGGGGGHHHHH! I just changed PCP on Monday, and see him tomorrow for the first time. The nurse made some phone calls, and he saw me anyway, and she told me that it shouldn't make a difference that I changed PCP in the middle of the trip. We'll see. I finally put my boxing gloves back on. You have to remember that I retired from the PD nearly 6 years ago, and haven't wanted to fight my way out of a paper back since then. I'm back in fighting shape now.
