Guest guest
Thanks for the info ee, it's a real help. I am hoping to talk to the orthotist on our next appointment and get her input, because she said she can order them into her office (maybe they'd take less time? who knows?). I was thinking that it was a real possibility that Hayden could end up in holding casts and since he's already had so many, what's a few more, right? number23 wrote: Just a side note thought - becasue it could take a bit longer to get your mitchell shoes in the mail, is it possible to put your baby in to a " holding " cast until the shoes are available? Thinking Ahead... Hi Gang, just thinking ahead because there may be the possibility that Hayden will have his tenotomy next week or the week after. I have been researching and think that the shoes will be the way to go since Hayden has the complex clubfeet, although Dr. Pirani hasn't specified either way. If we decide to go with the s, then we will most likely have to order them next week because they take a long time to come in. Can anyone tell me what the cost comparison is between the s and the Markells? Even if you tell me in US dollars it will give me an idea. I am hoping that we can get one pair covered on my extended health this year and one more next year. I am not planning to return to work and my benefits will run out in June (and hubby is self-employed), so it would be good to get a couple pairs of the shoes out of it. I am just curious because someone commented that the s cost more than the Markells. Thanks in advance!
Guest guest
, I HAVE a spare mitchell bar ... they had to make a bigger one for Kai. If you decide, let me know and I can send it to you (shipping should not be too bad from here) and you can tell john you have bar. Angel Thinking Ahead... Guest guest
Your first pair will cost 350 U.S. dollars, plus shipping ($?), plus the mold($22). It's pretty expensive and most us us have to do quite a bit of fighting with the insurance companies to get them to cover them, but they're worth it. The Markell's, in most cases, will only give him blisters and discomfort. wrote: Hi Gang, just thinking ahead because there may be the possibility that Hayden will have his tenotomy next week or the week after. Guest guest
Just to emphasize what ee said, it may take 3 weeks or longer to get your shoes. It's never taken longer than a couple weeks when we've ordered them, but for everyone else the AVERAGE seems to be around 3 weeks. Guest guest
Yes it took our last pair a full 3 weeks to get. s. Thinking Ahead... Guest guest
Remember, if you go ahead and get them, tell or Jean that you will already have a bar ... that will lower the cost some. I am sure they will want more info on that, and I will be happy to call them to let them know it is in fact the correct bar. Angel Re: Thinking Ahead... Guest guest
The Markells are around $160 and the s are close to $300. IT IS WORTH TO GET THE MITCHELLS! if your child has A-Typical AKA Complex! Dont get the Markells!!!!They will be a waste of your time, and a torchure devise to your child! Guest guest
This is what I am thinking, too. I am not sure what boot we tried at Children's before we started going to Dr. Pirani, but they were horrible - I would be sweating by the time I got them on Hayden's feet and he would be screaming. By looking at the s, I think they look very easy to get on and very comfortable and I read the endorsement by Dr. Ponseti, so that helps too. I don't think we even care if my insurance covers them or not - if they mean less trauma for Hayden, then they must be the ones we get! I really appreciate everyone's advice on this topic - thanks! Guest guest
Wow! I always thought the markells were like $70/pair!!! Did they go up in price or does it just depend who you get them from?
