Hi Sara,

I know exactly what kind of bruising you are talking about. I

haven't had my jaw surgery yet. and don't even have my braces. I go

in to the Orthodontists (three) this week to discuss it. But I had

a face (FL) and neck lift and upper and lower eye lifts done this

past Septmeber. I tend to bruise long and dark and have lots of

swelling with any surgery. I have olive toned skin, and that type

tends to do this. I went out of country for my FL and came home 2

weeks post op on the plane. I was still pretty bruised and

swollen. But most people who didn't know me wouldn't have been able

to tell about the swelling. We see that more readily than others

do. But the bruising was pretty obvious.

I had tried the usual coverstick and blending methods to cover

this. It worked okay for the plane trip, but I had to reapply every

hour or so. UGH! When I got back home, I went to a makeup counter

in an upscale store in the mall. They used some dermablend brand

makeup and it really covers well. I bought some then and have it on

hand now for this work. as my dentist says I will need upper (to

lengthen), lower (advancemnet, centering and lowering), and

septoplasty. I can just imagine the swelling and bruising for

that! And great tip about the ibuprofen. I use alleve, but checked

and it is also one to not use for a few weeks post op. I will use

Tylenol for recovery too. Great tip!

There was a makeup that was on TV a few years ago too. It was

designed and used for women and men with severe scarring. I can't

remember the name of it, but I am sure you can get it online. Does

anyone remember the name of that? I will try a few key words and

see if I can find it, and will post here if I can find it. This

probably won't help you Sara if you are going back to work this

soon, but the dermablend should do okay. I hope it helps.

Few ideas...

for dark circles or dark anything, use a (cream or liquid) cover

stick or such...in yellow (this is if you are " white " -I'm not so

sure if you are olive skin or african-american honestly)...

for red or purple areas, use green

I know this sounds odd, but I have a popped blood vessel on my cheek

and have for about 10 yrs now and have been plagued with allergic

shinners under my eyes (darkish circles that always look like I could

sleep some more esp when allergies are in season)...and these colors

while they are wacky do work...I would then go over your whole face

with a nude color compact -powder- to avoid smearing or

reapplying...and also, be sure to take this off at night...the creams

or liquids, esp if you're not used to it and coming from post-op when

skin gets kookie to begin with...this will help lessen your pimples.

Good luck and remember be proud...these are like battle-scars...you

earned these! (and most of all, remember it's just temporary!--

promise) JO
