Tony,

I had the same thing happen to me, then I developed double vision. That's when I went to the hospital thinking I might be getting a stroke. After a few weeks of wrong diagnosis they finally came up with N.S. and steroids eventually started clearing up my problems.

See your neurologist.

get well...

Rick

BTW....my mother had Bell's Palsy and many symptoms that I have. Sarc was never mentioned. Most doctors say that Sarc. is not hereditary, I have a doctor who does believe it is, and now I wonder if some of the meds that I'm on might of saved my mom who passed.

The last time I had issues with facial numbness, the event began with a tingling in my lips. For those of you who have dealt with the Bell's palsy like issue, curious what the first signs were for you. Reason I ask is that yesterday afternoon one of my cheeks suddenly went numb up near the cheek bone, almost as if I had a shot or two of novacaine. This morning, hard to tell but it feels as if the numbness has spread to the corner of my mouth. If I remember correctly, like I remember much with neuro sarc, it took ~3 days last time before the entire side of my face was numb. Hoping this isn't the case. Any insight appreciated.Peace, Tony

That was one of the first signs of NS for me. However I was talking on the

phone and was asked if I was in bed lying down. I said no and he said you

must be tired. In the middle of the night I got up to go to the bathroom

and noticed my face on the right side was drooping. I called a friend as

said I think I need to go to the hospital. I thought I had a stroke. So it

came on suddenly with the only warning was my slurred speech.

Sorry I can't be of more help. Hope all turns out well for you.

Thinking and praying for you.

Jackie

Tony, I've had two episodes. The first began with numbness of my tongue & the second with pain behind my ear, which spread down into my neck & up the side of my head--very severe pain. The drooping followed in 2-3 days both times. If you think it's Bell's, you would normally need the short course of Prednisone. If you're already on Pred, you might need a short "burst" treatment. Many docs also recommend Acyclovir along with the Pred. I took both the first time & it completely resolved within 2 weeks (most Bell's will resolve with or without treatment, but personally I wouldn't risk it). The second time I only took the Pred & it never completely resolved. Most people don't notice, but I can tell with my eyes & mouth. I also had to have speech therapy & electric stimulation of the facial muscles that second time. What's weird is that the terrible pain on the side of my head resolved when the drooping started, but a couple of days later I started having severe facial pain on that side, diagnosed as trigeminal neuralgia. Neurontin helped quite a bit, and thankfully, it resolved after a few weeks & hasn't returned. That's some awful pain. I don't know if the difference in how it started had anything to do with the additional pain & problems, if not taking the Acyclovir mattered; my doctors don't seem to think so. But I guarantee you, if I ever have another episode, I'm taking both! It's also important to begin the Pred as soon as you think an episode's starting; don't wait for the drooping, etc. You have a much better chance of complete resolution. Most Bell's palsies resolve completely or mostly, like mine, but I had a patient a few years back with severe long-term damage. So don't fool around with it. If your doc doesn't want to treat early, find someone else.
