Guest guest
Hi All Just wanted to introduce myself. I joined the group about a week ago after my mother found it online and suggested I join. I must say, it's been a relief to see that other people are asking themselves many of the same questions that I am regarding having jaw surgery. I have an anterior open bite and have been wearing braces for 4 months now. Prior to this I wore braces for 10 years (along with a whole set of headgears, tongue-gates, elastics, you name it!), from the time I was 7 to 17 years old in an attempt to fix my open bite and therefore avoid jaw surgery. Unfortunately it wasn't meant to be and now, ten years later I've finally decided to bite the bullet and go for it, mainly due to the fact that my TMJ has been getting worse (killer headaches) and eating/chewing has become something of a challenge to me, not to mention that my chin is withdrawing more and more everyday whereas my smile is becoming gummier by the minute. My surgery is due to take place at the end of this May, after I graduate from grad school but my OS hasn't set a fixed date yet. Fingers crossed it will be sooner rather than later. While I've been determined to get through this whole ordeal all along I've been feeling sort of lost throughout the whole process and above all, terrorized of the surgery and what comes after. Hearing about all of your procedures, trials and tribulations, and above all, successful results is really encouraging. And, seeing these post-op pics helps calm me down because now I know what I'm in for. I have a ton of questions and I'm sure I'll be posting them like crazy in the future weeks to come. Thanks all for sharing your experiences and for being so honest! Sara
