Dear Colleagues,

Here is a summary of several funding opportunities that has been prepared for you by Dipboye and Hilda Bogue on our staff. These brief summaries include direct links to each announcement. We hope that you will find this to be helpful information and wish you great grant surfing.

Avon Foundation Breast Care Fund

Due Date:

08-22-2008

Eligibility:

Applicants must be based in the U.S., and be private, non-government, non-profit organizations (with Federal non-profit status). Both community-based organizations and medical service provider organizations (community clinics, hospitals, etc.) with mammography screening capacity are welcome to apply. Any publicly-funded government agency wishing to apply may do so only by partnering with a private, non-profit organization or educational institution that will assume fiscal responsibility for and collaborate fully with the proposed program. All organizations applying for funds must have been in existence for at least two years.

Purpose:

To support programs that: recruit women for both first time screening and annual screening; develop partnerships between community-based outreach providers and local medical providers; work with health care providers to ensure proper clinical follow-up of abnormal screening results; and educate older women about Medicare coverage of annual screening mammograms and assist them in obtaining the service from providers who accept Medicare.

2009 Healthy Vision Community Awards: National Eye Institute

Due Date:

Eligibility:

Nonprofit organizations, including but not limited to community-based organizations and groups, minority-based organizations, schools, faith-based organizations, civic and fraternal groups, and local health departments and agencies. Universities and university affiliations such as medical centers are precluded from receiving an award directly, but are welcome as collaborators with community-based organizations.

Indoor Environments - Reducing Public Exposure to Indoor Pollutants: EPA

Due Date:

09-10-2008

Eligibility:

States, local governments, territories, Indian Tribes, and possessions of the U.S., including the District of Columbia, international organizations, public and private universities and colleges, hospitals, laboratories, other public or private non-profit institutions are eligible to apply. The project must be for work done within EPA Region 9 which consists of the states of California, Arizona, Hawaii, Nevada, and the Pacific Islands (U.S. territories of Guam, American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern na Islands, and other unincorporated U.S. Pacific possessions).

Purpose:

Cable Positive’s Tony Community Fund

Purpose:

To encourage community-based AIDS Service Organizations and cable systems to partner in joint outreach efforts, or to produce and distribute new, locally focused HIV/AIDS-related programs and public service announcements (PSAs). Eligible local community outreach projects include, but are not limited to: World AIDS Day (December 1) and National HIV Testing Day (June 27) events, AIDS rides/walks, and other joint efforts between ASOs (AIDS Service Organizations) and local cable systems. Funding is also available for the production costs of HIV/AIDS-related programs and PSAs.

Rural Health Network Development Planning Grant Program (RHNPGP): HRSA

Eligibility:

Public and non-profit private entities, including faith-based and community organizations. In addition, the grantee must meet the following requirements: The applicant organization must be located in an eligible rural county or a rural census tract of a metropolitan county and all grant activities must support rural areas. Applicant providing services exclusively to migrant and seasonal farm workers in rural areas and is supported under Section 330G of the Public Health Service Act. Federally recognized Native American Tribe or Tribal Organization that will deliver services on a Reservation or federally recognized Tribal lands. The applicant organization must represent three or more separately owned entities. Existing networks that seek to expand services or expand their service area are not eligible to apply for this program.

Purpose:

To provide support to entities that need assistance to plan, organize and develop a health care network because they do not have a significant history of collaboration and are not sufficiently evolved to apply for a three year Rural Health Network Development Grant. This support may be sufficient to jumpstart a network into becoming operational and developing strategies for becoming sustainable. The grant program supports one year of planning to develop and operationalize health care networks, consisting of at least three health care providers in rural areas. Identify potential collaborating network partners in the community/region. Convene potential collaborating network partners, conduct planning activities, which could include undertaking a community assessment identifying the most critical need of potential network partners to ensure their viability.

Finding Answers- Disparities Research for Change: Wood Foundation

Purpose:

To improve the quality of health care provided to patients from racial and ethnic backgrounds likely to experience disparities.

discover and evaluate practical and replicable solutions designed to reduce and eliminate disease-specific racial and ethnic health care disparities; focus on interventions aimed at health care delivery for one or more of the following health concerns: cardiovascular disease, depression and/or diabetes; conduct systematic reviews of the literature regarding racial and ethnic health care disparities interventions; and disseminate results from these research efforts and systematic reviews to encourage health care systems to address racial and ethnic gaps in care.

Rural Health Care Services Outreach Grant Program: HRSA

Public and non-profit entities, including faith-based and community organizations. Applicants in rural counties or eligible rural census tracts within an urban county. Applicants providing services exclusively to migrant and seasonal farm workers in rural areas and supported by Section 330G of the Public Health Service Act.
