But I think maybe there's too many calories and fructose (sugar) in watermelon for " us " to get our lycopene that way. Carol A

It's not even mg, it's mcg's. Better eat some tomatoes. The Centrum just won't do it. Carol A

The Centrum just won't do it. Well, I wonder if it has to be tomatoes, or if it can be tomato-based foods. V8 juice comes to mind, or spaghetti sauce. I don't eat pasta, but I use tomato based pasta sauces in a lot of my recipes. Come to think of it, I use a lot of canned tomatoes as well. So I must be getting *some,* though whether it's *enough* is yet to be determined! <grin> ~~ Lyn G
Guest guest
YES: watermelon is high in carbs and has a high glycemic index. So, for RnYers it could mean an express ride to dumpsville. --Steve At 5:26 AM -0400 8/15/03, tuesdynite@... wrote: >I think maybe there's too many >calories and fructose (sugar) in watermelon for " us " to get our lycopene that >way. Guest guest
Yes, especially when it takes a cup and a half of watermelon juice to get 10mg of lycopene! --- 365/199/160 Lap RnY, Distal - Dr. s Vanderbilt University Hospital Surgery date June 3, 2002 ----- Original Message ----- From: Tuesdynite@... Guest guest
Just be sure you cook those tomatoes, if you hope to be able to absorb the lycopene! --- 365/199/160 Lap RnY, Distal - Dr. s Vanderbilt University Hospital Surgery date June 3, 2002 Re: Tomatoes may prevent osteoporosis > In a message dated 8/14/2003 9:47:55 AM Central Daylight Time, > butterflye@... writes: > > > > > Well, there's Lycopene in Centrum daily vitamins, including the > > chewables -- so I guess I'm getting mine!
