Eat some food, take a drink, wash it down giving more room to east some more. That is the theory. Not drinking allows the food to sit in the pouch giving that full feeling longer. Guest guest
Basically, the water emulsifies the food so it doesn't have a chance to fill your pouch and make you feel full. It just " rinses " the pouch out. Actually, it usually gives me diarrhea. in Austin RNY April 1998 I always have to know " why. Guest guest
To add to what the others have said, if you've had the RNY, we don't have a pyloric valve anymore. The pyloric valve opens and closes from the old stomach(pre-op) into the intestines, which as I understand it, kinda regulates food to slowly leave the tummy (my non- technical description!). With our surgeries, there is simply an opening (stoma) from the pouch into the intestines, so no valve to control how fast food empties. With water liquifying the food, it empties the pouch quicker, washes it right thru, so that not only can you eat more per meal, your hungry again faster than if you let the food drain slowly from the pouch without the liquid to help it along.
