Guest guest
I think it depends on the kids. My ASD daughter 3.5 doesn't seem to like animals that much. We do have two cats and she is always nice to them but gets irritated if they do not respond to her " nos " which means for them to go away. I am a big animal lover and I have had my share of crazy dogs and cats. My folks used to breed Huskies. We (DH and I) made a huge mistake of getting a older puppy ( Cocker) about 10 years back. It was on sale! We were very attached to him but along came our son and I don't even want to tell you. I'll make me cry:( Folks with children need to get a puppy between 8 weeks and 12 weeks old. They are very open to change then and particularly being socialized with your children. Children move differently then adults particularly toddlers often this type of movement may overly excite hyper dogs, do be aware. Also different breeds are known for particular characteristics, traits, and negative things. For instance Cocker Spaniels are prone to ear infections, cherry eye, prostrate trouble, and diabetes. Also cockers have been overbreed to meet the demands of the public. Consequent the likeable traits of loyality and protectiviness can become aggressive and anxiety. Like anything, it pays to do some homework. Also it may be more expensive but if you can afford it - go to a breeder and pick out your dog versus going to a pet store. Good Luck and have fun Jeneane, Houston Nick (NT)5 (PDD-NOS) 3 Beth (NT)
