Guest guest
Hi, My daughter gets her helmet tomorrow. It is a Starband. What should I expect when I pick it up? Should it fit her perfectly or will they need to do some adjustments? I'm nervous for her to wear it. Do the babies seemed bothered by them? I'm ready to start the process already I feel like we have been dealing with this forever! Thanks, Kara
Guest guest
Hi Kara, I totally know the feeling, but it really wasn't as bad as I expected.(and my little girl has a very intense personality so i was expecting the worst!) Even though the helmet is custom made for your baby's head they will probably still shave a few areas to make it fit as comfortably as they can. and you will probably have to go in about every other week after that to make minor adjustments. They give you a schedule for the first few days to slowly ramp up to them wearing it for 23 hours a day. The first day was hard because you're taking it on and off again a lot but my daughter got used to it by about the third day and does great. She was walking a little wobbly at first but does great now. And we also put a firm pillow in her crib so it was a little more comfortable for her to sleep with it on. (my child was 9 months old when she got her helmet so only put the pillow in your child's crib if you feel it is not a hazard) I questioned my decision the day after she got her helmet but I tend to not do well with change. Now I am very glad we stuck with it. My daughter has only had her STARband helmet for about a month and the improvement is absolutely amazing, I couldn't be happier. The worst part is just dealing with rude ignorant strangers out around town. Hang in there, it will be over before you know it!!! Kelsi > > Hi, > > My daughter gets her helmet tomorrow. Guest guest
They will more than likely have to do some adjustments. She could have grown some between the scan and getting the band. My baby ate, played and slept all the same. I would put the band on and take it off several times in the office until you are comfortable doing it. I forgot to and when I got home I was nervous and had to go back. Once I did it a few times it was easy. Be sure to let us know how it goes. Guest guest
I am glad to hear she is adjusting well. I think it took me a bit longer to get used to it too. Please keep us updated on how she is doing. Angie Helmet Fitting> > > > > > Hi,> > My daughter gets her helmet tomorrow. It is a Starband. What should I expect when I pick it up? Guest guest
hi kara! we actually got my little boys STARband on wednesday, and we are adjusting well. This is so funny i read your whole post and i too got the starband because i thought it was closer, and my sons physical therapist recomended us to a Hanger business about an hour away from our house...well i actually love it there. after getting his molding i started noticing that the STARband and DOC band are totally different in looks!!! i too was a little distrought when i found out how big his was but he acutally looks really cute in his! and, the DOC might look better but some have told me that the STARband lasts longer than the DOC. some DOC band users need 2 depending on the age of the start of treatment. Anyways, i have just told myself he wont be wearing it long and im thankful hes got it. also, i dont know why but everyone talks about hanger and starband are 2 different helmets but i went top the hanger place and got the starband...i dont know. yes i agree, i think i was really worried he would hate it! knowing him pretty well i thought he owuld be miserable but he has done very well. the fact that he did so good made it a little easier for me i think!!!! how old is your daughter??? i have heard some good things outta the starband...i asked a question about if the star band is a good helmet but alot use the DOC band... > > Hi, > > My daughter gets her helmet tomorrow.
