Guest guest
Hey , What is the addy to the group you joined. I too would be interested in finding out about pregnancy after the DS. This is just my opinion. And I hope I dont get flamed for it. I think the reason the RNY post-ops are so sensitive is because, most never researched and found out about the DS until it was to late, most are pissed because they feel they are stuck with the RNY and the last group is mis-informed as the lady who posted you obviously is. Like I said its just my ..02 cents. Let me know if you find another group. As I would be interested in joining. I was looking for the DS Pregnany group on Yahoo...NO, I'm not preggers and don't even know if my husband I will decide to go that route but I am a research hound and wanted to read of people's experiences with pregnancy after WLS, particularly the DS. It takes much research and time for me to make a decision so , I figured, lets read and see what's going on and when I'm able, in 2 years or so, and IF we decide to have a child, I'll know what may be down the road for us... I was unable to find the DS Pregnancy group that I had once heard existed...so I join a " Pregnancy after weight loss surgery " group...they all seemed pleasant enough... I posed a quick question which was, " Has anyone out there gotten pregnant after having the DS surgery? " Then I get a question, " What is the DS? " I simply explain that it is a different type of surgery, pyloric valve in tact, no dumping, and if someone wanted to know more, they could go to www.duodenalswitch.com...yada, yada, yada...no big whoop right? SO here's why I'm MAD...I get responses from these women saying " Do you know the NIH says the DS is dangerous " and " I had RNY so I would dump and I'd know when I was bad " , etc, etc...! It mad me furious...AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHH! I just wanted to talk about an issue that I may consider in the future and get some feedback and learn...and I felt like I was " flamed " for my surgery choice....I didn't play the mean game back, I just replied with " I already chose the DS for myself and I am here to learn about pregnancy after WLS...I do not welcome comments about what I have already done in regards to my surgery choice " . Am I overreacting? Am I too sensitive? It just really got to me! I wish I had an everlast punching bag in my office! Guest guest
Unfortunately, there do not appear to be a lot of ds patients who have been or are pregnant. I think the reason for this is that a lot of the surgeons even those who perform DS still encourage RNY for patients who are younger who are more likely to have a lower bmi. I sent an e-mail to Dr. Herron about this pre-op and he sent back a short reply that it should not be a problem. Hoever it appears as though the jury is still out as there are not a ton of 20 something DS patients. There are more of clamoring for DS so it is forseable that there will be a study some time in the near future. I run a list for 20 somethings wls of which 60% are ds and 40% are rny. However even on this list there are many who have not had children post-op. Yet the RNY people are quick to spit out that they had RNY becuase they wanted to have children in the future. And I quickly give them a response to the affect that I had DS becuase not only do I want to have children but I want to keep the weight off after I have children. The long term benefits of DS prove that not only will concieve easier without the excess weight but that we will maintain a healthy weight after our pregnancies which is something I have yet to see a RNY patient do with the exception of one RNY who got pregnant at 6 months post-op. However if she were to have weighted until after her weightloss window was closed I think things would have been different. > HI Friends, > > I just wanted to blow off some steam! I AM SO MAD! Guest guest
Add to that that their surgeons most likely sold them a bill of goods... " The RNY is so much safer than any other wls.... " " It helps keep you honest by causing you to 'dump' when you overindulge.. " Bleh. alyssa Re: Pregnancy...READ THIS! > > Hey , > What is the addy to the group you joined.
