Guest guest
Istead of carrots you can just make the chicken but not as a soup. Save the broth and use that to drink as well, and buy some avocado's and eat them with your chicken. That way you're getting some nutrients in place of what the carrots would give you.Not sure about the dairy thing. If you eliminate dairy on an anti-candida diet because of lactose, then i'd say it's fine. If it's something else about dairy then maybe it won't be.-UC - 1+ yearsSCD - 8 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Asacol - 12 pills a day Prednisone 40mg entocort With vit E mixed inBack to intro/stage 1 for now.To: BTVC-SCD From: sequoiaraven@...Date: Thu, 25 Mar 2010 23:48:51 +0000Subject: Intro diet questions I'm new to this list and the SCD and I apologize if my questions have already been brought up. I searched a little ways back and didn't find the information I was looking for. I haven't started the intro diet yet as I'm just trying to get myself prepared and well informed about SCD first. I was wondering, however, if it's possible to substitute a different vegetable in the chicken soup instead of the cooked pureed carrots for the intro diet? I believe I have problems with carrots and have avoided them for a really long time. I was thinking zucchini, but then I came across a post saying that they're quite fibrous? Perhaps well cooked string beans? Or some other option?? Secondly, I've been following an anti-candida dietary regimen for the past little while as I've had a problem with candida overgrowth. The specific anti-candida regimen that I've been following stipulates no fruit, sweeteners, grains/starch, or dairy. What I'm wondering is if the homemade yogurt and the DCCC which are considered OK items for the intro diet in BTVC would be ok if one is also battling a candida issue? My assumption is that they are allowed on the diet because they are virtually free of lactose and therefore being free of lactose it would mean that there's nothing there for the yeast to feed on and so I should be ok eating them on the intro diet...? I plan on staying away from fruit and honey for the time being until the candida issue has been cleared up, it's just this dairy question which I'm unsure about. Any insight into either of these questions would be so greatly appreciated -Meli The New Busy is not the old busy. Search, chat and e-mail from your inbox. Get started. Guest guest
Hi Meli, I have had candida overgrowth for a while that was made worse my prednisone just before I started the diet. I didnt' follow a candida diet at first, just the SCD, and I included DCCC and eventually yogurt. Neither have worked well for me. Cheese seems to trigger symptoms, and so does yogurt now. It even makes my tongue more white and coated, so I think it is feeding the thrush (candida) somehow. According to the yeast diets, fermented food is no good, i.e. no cheese. Yogurt is supposed to be helpful though, so I have no advice on that one. I have tried to combine the two restrictions, which leaves me with meat, eggs, soup from just the chicken alone, and a veggie and three low-sugar fruits that yeasts are not supposed to like. I've added in onion and garlic and just now tried lemon juice to fight the yeasts. Not sure if that helps at all, but that is what I had to do! I made a little " menu " for myself at first by cross-referencing the OK lists from both diets (and started at level 1/2 SCD foods after ending the intro), and wrote down foods I would like to try next so I wouldn't get too discouraged from the lack of variety! Doing both diets at once can be tricky, but it can be done! Guest guest
Oh yeah, that too! Forgot to mention all the loads of potatoes and cheese and fermented foods and cookies I ate when I thought the meds made me " better " during December. Guest guest
Thanks all for the responses, they've been helpful in pointing me in the right direction. I'll give the yogurt a go in small doses after the intro, but stay away from DCCC at least for the time being. @- DCCC stands for dry curd cottage cheese I'm also wondering if avocado is legal for the intro diet? My assumption is that if diarrhea is the problem, due to the high fat content it should be limited at first. -Meli > > > > > > > Meli > > > > > > > > Looks like others have given you some suggestions on your first question. > > My body doesn't tolerate most of the intro. diet foods, so I substitute > > others that are the easiest for my digestion to cope with. > > > > > > > > As to your second question. My assumption is that if diarrhea is the problem, due to the high fat content it should be limited at first. In general, it's best to limit fats on intro and then gradually introduce them. I tolerated butter on my steamed, peeled zucchini, and with my soft boiled eggs, but that was all I used. Avocado, however, was one of my favorite " soft foods " to re-introduce following my cancer surgery. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
