Guest guest
Kathy, S/F carbonated beverages do not cause weight gain in and of themselves. I don't know about you but sometimes I associate certain drinks with certain food like root beer and pizza, margaritas and mexican food, diet coke and chocolate. If I can do one with out the other I am fine but there is just something about that diet coke and chocolate bar that I could always justify in my former life. Well, the great news is that Jonah gained over 2 pounds since our last visit and grew well to. All this with a stomach virus and cold in between. Dr. H. was thrilled and therefore no feeding tube! If he continues like this and does not spill ketones, he will not need one. We are so happy and must live one day at a time and pray that he keeps up the great work. She increased his Periactin again and the increased Miralax has made all the difference for him too. She asked that I tell all parents how bad it is for the kids to be constipated, how the Miralax helped and the difference it can make in terms of weight gain. I am thinking of you all and look forward to seeing many of you in Chicago! , Jonah's mom

Guest guest
My weight gain was in my belly, ! When the Dr started me on high doses of prednizone, I gained 60 lbs in two months and the odd thing was that I was nauseated all the time and could not eat! If I kept anything down, it was cool vegetables...........and that should NOT make a person gain weight. Yes, it IS hard to find clothes that fit and look right on a person........just another little "gift" from the old Sarc Monster............ Yeaterday able to ride stationary bike for 10 minutes each three times, without losing balance and falling off. Happy happy Greg. Will start increase time on stationary Bike. Will rebuild my endurance and then Start a good ole Army PT Program to get rid of this Prednisone bloat. Yes, all I will take it easy and start slow. I know I am not the young trooper I use to be. OO and Rose I think I will save up for a Recumbent trike. Priced them out and they are twice as expensive as my Mountain bike. Plus need to get under 250 lbs. (and I am on my way) or the ones for heavy people are even more expensive. Will update y'all in a few weeks and let you know if I successfully increased my endurance and if I have started my PT Program. > > Thank you all for all the advice and prayers I recieved in the past few months. Guest guest
Darlene and , My weight gain was belly and lap. Went from pant siz 32 to 44 with suspenders. Wear 2 t-shirts one under the suspenders and one above to hide them. Have to wear suspenders due to no weight gain at hips, with out suspenders would be showing plumber crack and that aint pretty. I blame that d--- m----- f------ Prednisone for my weight gain and fat belly and moon face. Had a woman in the store today tell me i should eat less fats. Well exploded on her and told her " No I just the stop taking that d------------------------------------- Prednisone and live in pain and frustration and I could be as skinny as her a--!! " Felt bad afterwards and had to apologize cuz' she cried. I told her it was all the prednisone fault and went into explain all bout Prednisone and calm her down, she left lil more knowledgable and I left out of spoons. heading to bed you girls be good. Greg aka Krumdawg " Where did all my spoons go?! " > > > > AAAHHHHH the prednisone. I too turned into a cherub with the prednisone. I had the diabetic thing too. I am on 10mg a day and although the diabetic thing is under control I am still about 45 lbs above what I used to be. ARGH I too try the excursive, to no avail. I used to walk 6 miles a day to stay down to 150. I had a gastroplasty in '87 and went from 357 to 150 but not without hard work. I will work to no end to keep from being that 357 again. Every time I see me in the mirror I get scared and motivated at the same time. > > I get knocked down, but I get up again nothing gonna keep me down. Guest guest
Yes, that is where my belly fat is too, I started going to PT and it's been great, my pants are getting lose, but again no wt loss, it is really helping with the way I walk, and my balance, but not so much the distance I can walk, but I do feel " things " getting tighter, but I do wish I could get rid of the wt too. Marla Is everybodys weight gain in the belly? I have been buying maternity pants so the legs will fit me right. Being shaped like Humpty Dumpty makes finding short & pants that fit right awful hard. The new maternity pants they have out now don't have that awful panel in the front! I bought a pair at KMart this weekend and the fit is perfect! When I buy my gut size they always slide down and sometimes fall off! LOL Now that's a lovely image! I tried to find suspenders to keep my pants up but KMart didn't have any. BUMMER I'll keep looking. Maybe St has some.... Join our Sock Challenge for Orphans in Kazakhstan http://groups. yahoo.com/ group/Mittens_ for_Akkol/ grannylunatic@... Guest guest
It's a lovely phenomenon called "fat redistribution." The steroids don't just increase appetite leading to weight gain; they encourage most of it in the middle! Many folks keep fairly thin arms & legs, with the moon face & thick middle. Of the 90# I gained on Pred, I've lost about 60-65, with most of the extra in my middle. When I look down, I have 3 horizontal rolls--the boobs, a middle area & what I've heard called the subcontinent. My docs have told me that this middle weight is the hardest to lose. It's also the worst for our health; that fat around the heart & abdominal organs is dangerous.
