Guest guest
Mindy I think this is probably normal. They had to cut thru the nerves in the jaw and nerve regeneration is a slow process. I read nerves regenerate at a mm a day. I am almost three months and have 70% numbness in my gums and teeth from upper jaw surgery. I have most back on my pallate, but that has a really good blood supply. Which is vital in nerve regeneration. I am giving myself a year before I start to worry too much. Guest guest
Just a technical detail--they do not actually cut the nerves (at least not the major ones). The numbness comes from bruising of the nerves during surgery when they move the bones around. > > > > I am 5 months post-op and still have signficant numbness in my > upper > > gum and back by my lower molars. Guest guest
actually, they DO sever the nerves during surgery. you should double-check your information gina > > > > > > I am 5 months post-op and still have signficant numbness in my > > upper > > > gum and back by my lower molars. Guest guest
those two nerves were cut in my surgery, and i have already recovered feeling (at 3 weeks post-op). i was told there is a 90% chance they will grow back, not a 100% chance they wont. as someone else said- i think it depends on each individual surgery because everyone's jaws are different and need to be cut in different places. and i dont mean any of this in a rude way at all gina > > > > > > > > > > I am 5 months post-op and still have signficant numbness in > my > > > > upper > > > > > gum and back by my lower molars. Guest guest
According to my Surgeon: Every tooth has its own nerves, and when the upper jaw is worked on, there is a cut made across the top which causes numbness, and therefore takes a while to rejuvinate. My OS has been doing surgeries like this for 25 years, I trust him and he would not tell me something that was not true. But, every surgeon is different, and every case is too, but this was my case, and I would think the same procedure was done if there is extensive numbness in someones gumline. I am getting feeling back in two teeth so far. > > > > > > > > > > I am 5 months post-op and still have signficant numbness in > my > > > > upper > > > > > gum and back by my lower molars.
